Gal Gadot Was Not Happy After One Scene From The Boys Mocked Her With The ‘Imagine’ Video

It is widely believed that one of the primary reasons for the success of The Boys is their re-representation of pop culture with explicit mockery. And it’s fun to watch, at least the immense popularity of the show would justify that. However, Gal Gadot was far from being happy as the show went on to mock her.

The Boys leaves no stone unturned. When it comes to mocking popular ideas, the show prefers doing it with its unique signature trademark. Although, like other mockeries in the show, Gal Gadot never got to see a s*x and violence-infested scene, yet she must have despised the act of the parody of her.

When the world was soaked in terror and struggling to endure the devastating effects of the global pandemic, Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot took it upon her shoulder to lighten the mood. The actor released a cover video of John Lennon’s Imagine with her fellow celebrities and posted it on her Instagram.

The video has certainly caught the attention of The Boys as the video was in the popular buzz due to its heavy criticism. In season 3 of The Boys’ sixth episode Herogasm following the explosion of Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), Deep (Chace Crawford) used a similar style to Gadot to initiate a sing-along to comfort the people with the same song. Deep’s video featured a few sups from the Seven, including A-Train and Black Noir. Noir doesn’t speak, and he used a card to convey the song’s lyrics, making it more hilarious for fans.

Deep’s video also included several real celebrities, including Patton Oswalt, Josh Gad, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, Elizabeth Banks, Kumail Nanjiani, and Rose Byrne. But for Gadot, the mockery was not within the limit of digestion as the actor previously stated that her video never had any ill intention.

Gadot was inspired by a trumpeter who performed a cover of the song on his balcony. She invited several fellow celebrities to join her video, which includes Pedro Pascal, Kristen Wiig, Mark Ruffalo, Will Ferrell, and Natalie Portman. Following the release of Gadot’s video, she was heavily criticized as fans could not relate to their luxury, and it was out of touch. However, the actor never regretted making the video despite admitting it was in poor taste.

“It just felt right, and I don’t take myself too seriously. And with the whole ‘Imagine’ controversy, it’s funny. I was calling Kristen [Wiig], and I was like, ‘Listen, I want to do this thing.’ The pandemic was in Europe and Israel before it came here [to the U.S.] in the same way. I was seeing where everything was headed. But [the video] was premature. It wasn’t the right timing, and it wasn’t the right thing. It was in poor taste. All pure intentions, but sometimes you don’t hit the bullseye, right?” Gadot told InStyle.

For Gadot, it was not the right timing, but The Boys showrunner knew exactly where and when they would exploit the event that has gained a huge cultural space in the debate.
