One actor from The Boys whose character was killed off will be back in Season 4 in a different role… sort of.
While one major character was killed off in the third season finale for The Boys, the actor who played him will still be back in Season 4.
Per Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Eric Kripke recently addressed the death of Black Noir in the Season 3 finale. In the episode, the Supe is killed by Homelander (Antony Starr) due to secrets Black Noir had been keeping from him about Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles). The character’s demise would normally suggest that actor Nathan Mitchell would now be wrapped up with the show, but the benefit to keeping him masked all throughout has left the door open for him to return as a similar but different character. Notably, Fritzy-Klevans Destine played the unmasked Noir while Mitchell was always the masked version in the suit.
“I think I literally said something like, ‘OK, so I’m gonna say something and your stomach’s gonna drop, but then I’m gonna follow it up with something and you’re gonna see that it’s okay,'” Kripke said of delivering the news to Mitchell, revealing how Season 4 will bring the actor back as a different person who winds up wearing the same suit. “[Fortunately] a character who is completely silent and in a black mask can be recast.”
Kripke continued, “[He’s] a different character who wears the Black Noir suit. It’s definitely not the last we’ve seen of Black Noir as a hero. It’s just that the guy who was inside [the Noir suit] in Season 3, he’s gone. But we have Nathan playing a really interesting and hilarious character who wears the suit next season. We’ll explore it as the season goes on, but Nathan plays a whole new character.”
There’s Much More of The Boys Coming to Prime Video
Season 4 isn’t expected to be the end of The Boys, as Kripke recently suggested the show could very well end up extending far beyond his initial estimate of a five-season run. The world will also be further expanded upon with multiple spinoff shows. Gen V was such a hit with its run that it was renewed for a second season of its own. It has also been announced that another live-action spinoff, dubbed The Boys: Mexico, is in development as well.
The Boys is streaming on Prime Video; Season 4 doesn’t yet have a premiere date set at the streaming platform.
