Dwight Yorke warns Manchester United star he would be ‘foolish’ to join Arsenal

Dwight Yorke has warned Marcus Rashford there is no better place for him to fulfil his potential than at Manchester United.

The England international has struggled to recapture his best form this season under Erik ten Hag and has, at times, appeared a shadow of the player who scored 34 goals for club and country last term.

Rashford’s focus has been questioned in recent months, with his recent ‘Belfast bender’ cited as an example of his lack of commitment to the United cause.

The 26-year-old has regularly been linked with a move away from Old Trafford with Paris Saint-Germain long-term suitors.

Luis Enrique’s side are set to lose Kylian Mbappe in the summer after last week’s confirmation that the France international intends to leave on a free once the transfer window reopens while Arsenal, too, have been linked with Rashford.

Yorke, however, believes a settled environment will ultimately bring out the best in a player who has struggled for consistency over the course of his career.

The former United striker told GamblingZone: ‘Rashford to Arsenal? I think that’d be a foolish move.

‘Yes, people may think he wants to leave, but for what reason? He’s just signed a new contract and he’s easily, in my opinion, one of the best players at Manchester United.

‘Of course, because of the level he reached last season he hasn’t been able to fulfil his potential.

‘As sportsmen you go through phases and I think he will come out on the right side of it.

‘With any sportsman, including Rashford, if you’re not happy at work you won’t have a good time. Rashford needs to be happy with his surroundings, in training, to perform the way we know he’s capable of doing.

‘We don’t know the ins and outs, there’s lots of speculation that he’s not happy, but he may be happy and just out of form.

‘I don’t really take too much notice when you hear everybody’s opinions, but I think Rashford is in the right place.’
