🔥 Rita Wilson Reveals Where She Thinks Her Now and Then Character Chrissy Would Be in 2026

Rita Wilson has a vision of where her character from the iconic 1995 film Now and Then would be today, in 2026.

The talented actress and singer, who portrayed Chrissy, the quirky and pink-obsessed adult version of the main friend group, shared her thoughts on what Chrissy’s life might look like now.

“By now, Chrissy would have gone gray,” Wilson, 69, tells PEOPLE. “I think she would have moved on from her pink phase.” She added, “Chrissy might be divorced and single, but she would be a fabulous grandma.”

Reflecting on the special impact Now and Then had when it was first released, Wilson described the film as groundbreaking. “There had never been a movie like that before—a female coming-of-age story, a female Stand by Me,” she said. “I love that it still resonates, and young women continue to watch it. Moms are showing it to their daughters, and it was their movie growing up.”

Wilson especially appreciates how Now and Then showcased the female experience, the bond between the young girls, and how they stayed friends throughout the years. “It was about that tight friendship,” she said. “That connection stayed strong.”

Wilson also revealed a potential title for a Now and Then sequel, should one ever happen: Now and Again. “Could be a good sequel or version of that,” she teased when asked if a script exists.

Now and Then, directed by Lesli Linka Glatter and written by I. Marlene King, centers around four women reflecting on a transformative summer they spent together in 1970. Wilson, along with Demi Moore, Melanie Griffith, and Rosie O’Donnell, played the adult versions of the characters Sam, Chrissy, Teeny, and Roberta, respectively, while Christina Ricci, Thora Birch, Gaby Hoffmann, and the late Ashleigh Aston Moore played the younger versions.

In 2024, Wilson, Griffith, and O’Donnell reunited with Moore at ELLE’s Women in Hollywood event. The group also came together in April 2024 at a 92NY event to promote Wilson’s upcoming album, Sound of a Woman. Wilson fondly recalled how Moore encouraged her to sing in front of an audience during the filming of Now and Then, an experience that inspired her to take the stage publicly for the first time.

“We’ve been friends for about 30 years,” Wilson said. “And that moment, on Now and Then, when Chrissy sings ‘I’ll Be There’ by The Jackson Five, that was my first time singing in front of anyone. Demi really encouraged me to do it.”

What a full circle moment for these legendary women!
