By Soap Opera Daily – GH Drama Recap
Fans of General Hospital were left intrigued when Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) and Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) shared some intense moments, including two kisses, but now the budding romance between the teens has come to a halt. In a revealing conversation on the That’s Awesome podcast, hosted by Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) and Steve Burton (Jason), Antonyzyn shed light on the direction of Danny and Charlotte’s relationship and the surprising reasons behind their decision to halt the romance.
The Kissing Cousins Controversy
Danny and Charlotte’s blossoming romance raised eyebrows among fans, especially given their familial ties. While they aren’t closely related by blood, the characters share a family tree connection. Charlotte’s grandfather, Victor Cassadine, and Danny’s great-grandfather, Mikkos Cassadine, were brothers, making the teens second cousins once removed. Despite this distant connection, the relationship sparked controversy, leading Danny to seek advice from his family members.
A Family Dilemma
Antonyzyn explained the pivotal moment when Danny sought clarity from his grandmother, Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn), and his father, Jason, about the nature of his relationship with Charlotte. “Danny talked to his grandma and his dad about if they were related, and they said distant cousins, like great-grandfathers, great-great-grandfathers,” Antonyzyn recalled. “But at the end of the day, still related a little bit.” It was clear that, despite the distance in their bloodline, Danny was uncomfortable continuing a romance with Charlotte.
From Romance to Friendship
As the relationship progressed, Danny and Charlotte realized that their connection was more akin to a deep friendship than a romantic partnership. Antonyzyn compared their current dynamic to that of another iconic GH duo, Jason and Carly (Laura Wright). “They’ve kind of realized that it’s kind of like a Jason and Carly relationship where they have so much love for each other that they don’t feel like it’s right to go into something like that again.”
Focus on Their Personal Struggles
Both teens have been dealing with significant personal struggles that have taken precedence over romance. Charlotte is worried about her father, Valentin (James Patrick Stuart), who is on the run from the WSB, while Danny is consumed with finding his father, Jason, who was taken into WSB custody after taking the fall for shooting Cullum (Andrew Hawkes). The pair’s priorities have shifted to finding answers and seeking justice, leaving their romance behind.
A Powerful Friendship
Though the potential for romance has fizzled out, Danny and Charlotte are still a strong team. As Antonyzyn teased, “We do team up and try and get [Jason] back.” It seems their connection is now focused on supporting each other through their individual challenges, making them a formidable duo in the process.
Fans Weigh In: Better as Friends?
With their relationship turning into a solid friendship, General Hospital fans are left wondering whether Danny and Charlotte are better off as friends or if they should continue to explore the potential for romance. What do you think? Should they have pursued a relationship, or is their strong friendship the right path forward?
