In a case that has caught the attention of the BeyHive, justice has been served for the man accused of stealing a hard drive containing unreleased Beyoncé music. Kelvin Evans, the individual behind the theft, has agreed to a plea deal and will serve two years in prison followed by three years of probation.
According to TMZ, Evans was accused of breaking into an SUV rented by a member of Beyoncé’s team and stealing the hard drive, which contained unreleased tracks. The theft was captured on surveillance footage, showing Evans breaking into the vehicle just days before Beyoncé’s performance in Atlanta during her Cowboy Carter tour.
While Evans initially pleaded not guilty and rejected an earlier plea deal, prosecutors acknowledged that although they had strong evidence, parts of the case were circumstantial. This led to the plea recommendation, as a jury could potentially have been swayed in Evans’ favor.
In addition to the stolen hard drive, Evans was also charged with taking other valuable items, including jump drives containing show plans, set lists, two laptops, headphones, and designer sunglasses.
Facing up to six years in prison, Evans will now serve a reduced sentence of two years, with three years of probation. He pleaded guilty to one count of entering an automobile and one count of criminal trespassing, though the second charge was merged with the first.
As a repeat offender, Evans will not be eligible for parole. However, he will receive credit for time served following his arrest in September. Despite his criminal history, Evans expressed his desire to leave this chapter behind and focus on turning his life around. His defense attorney shared that he hopes to contribute positively to society moving forward.
While Beyoncé’s team has yet to comment publicly on the case, the resolution brings some closure to the high-profile theft. Fans and the music industry alike are now waiting for any further updates as the legal proceedings come to a close.
