Sacramento Kings forward Keegan Murray recently underwent a “minimally invasive” arthroscopic procedure on his left ankle to remove loose bodies, according to a report from James Ham of The Kings Beat. The surgery is expected to have a recovery timeline of six to eight weeks, meaning Murray should be fully recovered and ready for training camp in late September, barring any setbacks.
Murray, who has been a steady presence in the Kings’ lineup in previous seasons, faced a series of health issues during the 2025/26 campaign. After making 80, 77, and 76 appearances in his first three NBA seasons, his 2025/26 debut was delayed until November 20 due to surgery on his left thumb. He later dealt with a calf strain in December, followed by a left ankle sprain that kept him out for several weeks. Unfortunately, his ankle injury flared up again after a brief return, ultimately ending his season prematurely.
In total, Murray appeared in just 23 games during the regular season, averaging 14.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game. Despite the small sample size, Murray struggled with his shooting, posting career lows of 42.0% from the field and 27.7% from three-point range.
The Kings clearly see Murray as a vital part of their future, having signed him to a five-year, $140 million rookie-scale extension last October. That deal, which runs through the 2030/31 season, will go into effect this July when Murray’s rookie contract expires.
Murray is currently the only player on the Kings’ roster with guaranteed money beyond the 2027/28 season, underscoring the franchise’s confidence in his long-term role.
