Aiken County, SC — Authorities may have discovered the body of Krystal Anderson, a South Carolina mother who went missing in August 2022, leaving behind four young children. The discovery comes nearly four years after her disappearance and following the arrest of her boyfriend, Tony Berry, who has been charged with kidnapping and murder.

Anderson’s DNA was allegedly found in the trunk of Berry’s car, which was later discovered burned in a wooded area of Newberry County. Human remains were recently uncovered buried off Highway 37 near Blackville. While DNA testing is still ongoing, officials believe the remains may belong to Anderson. Investigators also noted that belongings found with the remains matched those of the missing mother.

Private investigator Chandra Cleveland described the discovery as devastating. “It’s just like the first day it happened when she went missing,” Cleveland said. “Maybe now we can give her a final resting place, and her children will be able to deal with the fact that their mother is not coming back.”

Anderson’s sister, Shadria Smothers, previously pleaded for public help, saying, “If you know anything, pls, I’m begging on behalf of her children. Life is really unfair to a family in the dark and grieving over a loved one.” Anderson’s children have been living with different family members since her disappearance, maintaining contact via FaceTime.

Berry’s trial, originally scheduled for next week, has been postponed due to the discovery of the remains. Authorities continue to investigate the case.
