Tragedy struck the Canadian music scene Monday night as Hamilton rapper Lil OT was fatally shot in the Burlington Centre Mall parking lot in Ontario. The 24-year-old artist was pronounced dead at a local hospital after gunmen opened fire outside a restaurant at approximately 10:10 P.M., according to Halton Regional Police.
Authorities believe the shooting was targeted. Witnesses reported seeing two individuals fleeing the scene in a white SUV. This attack comes after Lil OT had previously survived a violent incident in November 2023, when over 50 bullets were fired at his family’s Hamilton residence. No one was injured in that incident, which resulted in Ahmed Issak-Hussan pleading guilty to the drive-by shooting in December.
Lil OT, whose real name has not been publicly disclosed, had been steadily building his career in the Canadian rap scene. He amassed over 27,000 Instagram followers and 10,000 Spotify listeners, with his debut mixtape, JamesVille, surpassing 10 million streams. His YouTube content, including tracks like “Believe It or Not” and interviews with Six Entertainment, drew hundreds of thousands of views. His sophomore project, Written in Stone, was released last fall, and he had an upcoming 14-song album, Invisible Scars, in the works.
In his last public interview, Lil OT spoke candidly about the dangers of street life. “A lot of these young boys joining the streets think it’s fun out here,” he said. “It’s not fun out here. You lose friends and things change… You’re not the same person after that.” His warning now resonates with even greater gravity as fans and the community mourn the loss of a rising artist whose life and talent were cut tragically short.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward. No arrests have been made at this time.
