AJ Styles does not believe WWE will move away from its PG presentation anytime soon, despite ongoing calls from some fans for a return to a more mature product.
Speaking on Phenomenally Retro, the former WWE Champion addressed the debate surrounding WWE’s content direction and whether the company could eventually shift toward a TV-PG-13 or Attitude Era-style approach.
While Styles acknowledged that certain storylines can benefit from more intense moments, he made it clear that he does not see WWE abandoning the PG model that has defined the company for nearly two decades.
“I think there’s a time and a place for a storyline that has some blood in it. I get it,” Styles explained. “But to say that we’ll go back from PG to PG-13 or whatever the next step is, I don’t believe that we do that.”
Styles believes WWE’s current approach reflects how both the company and the entertainment landscape have evolved over time.
According to him, some elements that were common during previous wrestling eras simply would not fit today’s audience or business environment.
“I just don’t see a time that we come out of the PG era in WWE,” Styles said. “Because it was different from what you had seen over the past few years. It was just different.”
The veteran star also suggested that nostalgia can sometimes influence how fans view past eras of wrestling.
“But now I agree. You look back and go that’s kind of stupid. It doesn’t make any sense nowadays,” he added.
WWE officially transitioned to a PG rating in 2008, marking a significant change from the more adult-oriented content that characterized the Attitude Era and Ruthless Aggression Era. Since then, fans have regularly debated whether the company should return to a more mature presentation.
For Styles, however, the answer appears clear: WWE’s future remains firmly rooted in the PG era, even if occasional storylines call for a more intense approach.
