LeBron James is once again facing questions about his NBA future after the Los Angeles Lakers’ season came to an end.

Following the Lakers’ 115-110 Game 4 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday, May 11, James admitted that he has not yet decided whether he will return for another season.

“I don’t know what the future holds,” James said after the game.

The comment quickly fueled retirement speculation around the 41-year-old superstar, who just completed his 23rd NBA season.

James said he plans to take time with his family, reflect on the season, and decide what comes next before making any public announcement.

During the final game of his season, James finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds.

If he decides to keep playing, his future may not necessarily be with the Lakers. James is reportedly set to become an unrestricted free agent after the season. He earned $52.6 million during the 2025-26 season, meaning any move elsewhere at a lower salary would mark the first pay cut of his career.

After the Lakers were eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves last year, he also said he did not know how much longer he wanted to continue playing.

For now, James has not announced a retirement decision. His next step remains uncertain, but his latest comments have made one thing clear: the basketball world is once again waiting to see what LeBron James will do next.
