Thai authorities are investigating the death of 17-year-old Tunchanok Donhomla after her body was discovered inside a suitcase near railway tracks in Pattaya, Thailand. Police say an Australian man, 45-year-old Simon Carman, has been arrested in connection with the case shortly after the discovery of the remains and was detained at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport while allegedly attempting to leave the country.
According to police statements and local reports, Donhomla was reported missing on June 26 after last being seen in Pattaya. Investigators allege she was picked up earlier that day from an area known for nightlife activity along Beach Road and later brought to a hotel room where she was last seen alive.
Authorities say security camera footage played a key role in the investigation. Video allegedly shows the victim entering the hotel with Carman, as well as the suspect later leaving the building carrying a black suitcase similar to the one in which the body was later discovered. Additional footage reportedly places him near railway tracks where the suitcase was abandoned before he returned to the hotel.
The victim’s remains were found inside the suitcase late on June 26. Police described the condition of the body as showing signs of severe assault, including facial injuries and visible trauma. Investigators say the discovery prompted an immediate manhunt for the suspect.
Carman was arrested two hours after the body was found, at the airport in Bangkok, where authorities say he was attempting to purchase a flight back to Australia. He has since been charged with multiple offenses, including murder and crimes related to the alleged abduction of a minor.
Police also say further video evidence shows the suspect transporting the suitcase on a motorcycle before it was abandoned near the railway line. Investigators reported a brief gap in surveillance footage during the critical timeframe, which is now part of the ongoing inquiry.
Carman has denied all charges, according to investigators. Thai police continue to review forensic evidence, CCTV footage, and witness statements as the case moves forward through the legal system, while the investigation remains active and ongoing.
