According to reporting by Benedetto Vitale, LeBron James did not re-sign with the Lakers, bringing an end—at least for now—to his eight-year run in Los Angeles and opening the door to a new chapter in his career.

In response, Magic Johnson posted a public message on X (formerly Twitter), expressing gratitude to LeBron James and his agent Rich Paul for choosing the Lakers back in 2018 and helping shape a new era for the franchise.

“I want to thank LeBron James and his super agent, Rich Paul, for taking a meeting with me back in 2018 when I was President of the Lakers and deciding to sign with us,” Johnson wrote.

He continued by reflecting on LeBron’s impact in Los Angeles, highlighting the 2020 NBA Championship and the consistency James brought during his tenure with the team.

“[LeBron] created a whole new era for the Lakers, including leading us to an NBA Championship in 2020 and all the milestones he surpassed in a Lakers jersey. I’ll always love and be grateful for him and wish him all the best in the next phase of his life, on and off the court!”

LeBron’s time in Los Angeles included significant achievements, including an NBA title, multiple All-Star selections, and historic statistical milestones. Across 479 games with the franchise, he averaged 25.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 7.9 assists while maintaining elite efficiency.
