Marvel Already Showed How To Solve The MCU's Latest Cliffhanger 1.5 Years Ago

2023’s The Marvels ended with a major cliffhanger, but Marvel Studios may have already introduced the easiest way to solve this shocking mystery.

The easiest solution to the cliffhanger ending in Phase 5’s The Marvels has already been introduced to the MCU. The sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel hit theaters in November 2023, bringing together Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers, Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan to battle Zawe Ashton’s new MCU villain, Dar-Benn. While The Marvels’ storyline focused primarily on the relationship between the three titular heroes, and Dar-Benn’s assault on Captain Marvel’s favored worlds, the movie also took huge strides in pushing forward the MCU’s entire Multiverse Saga. To this end, The Marvels ends in a major cliffhanger that leaves one prominent hero’s fate uncertain.

Towards the end of The Marvels, Dar-Benn finally acquired Kamala Khan’s Quantum Band, yet overestimated her ability to wield both of these powerful bangles. The combined strength of the two Quantum Bands destroyed Dar-Benn, and tore a hole in the fabric of the universe, which Monica Rambeau realized only she could fix. Absorbing energy from Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel, Rambeau transformed into Photon, traveled through the tear, and used her ability to seal the gap and save the universe, leaving herself trapped on the other side. The Marvels’ cliffhanger ending left Rambeau’s MCU future in jeopardy, as she was left stuck in an alternate reality inhabited by the X-Men.

America Chavez Is The Key To Saving Monica Rambeau After The Marvels

While the future may seem uncertain for Monica Rambeau, Marvel Studios has already introduced the easiest way to collect her from the other universe and bring her back to the MCU’s main timeline. Xochitl Gomez debuted as America Chavez in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, debuting as a being who has the ability to create portals between universes. This allowed her and Doctor Strange to journey to Earth-838 and meet the Illuminati, and allowed her to eventually bring the Scarlet Witch to her knees, but this incredible power hasn’t been seen or mentioned since Multiverse of Madness’ release in May 2022.

It’s very possible that America Chavez could be recruited to save Monica Rambeau from the alternate reality, and this would certainly be the quickest fix for The Marvels’ cliffhanger surprise. It’s likely that Nick Fury and SABER have profiles on America Chavez just as they did on Kamala Khan and Kate Bishop in The Marvels, which means that the former Director of SHIELD may recruit the young hero to save his friend. Saving Monica Rambeau could have added benefits for America Chavez, too, as this would introduce her to a wider range of MCU heroes, and perhaps hint at a new member for The Marvels’ teased team.

America Chavez Saving Monica Rambeau Builds A Connection To A Future MCU Team

Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan played a major role in The Marvels, and formed an incredibly close bond with Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau. Following her experiences on a powerful MCU team, Kamala approached Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop with the proposition of bringing together the MCU’s Young Avengers, finally hinting at the team’s highly-anticipated formation. Should America Chavez be recruited to retrieve Monica Rambeau from an alternate reality, not only would she be saving Kamala Khan’s close friend, but the young hero would certainly prove her strength, and become a coveted and powerful member of the Young Avengers.
