Robert Downey Jr.’s character in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer stood out in a film full of explosive actors and scenes. The film had a lot going for it, with an impeccable cast of actors, cinematography, and one of the best directors of all time. Despite this, Downey managed to deliver a performance that stole the show. His character, Lewis Strauss, was as close as this film got to an antagonist, being one of the most morally interesting characters seen in cinema. His intricate psyche became a highlight for many and the writing wasn’t the only reason for this.

Downey’s portrayal of him was so well done that it has become one of his greatest performances to this date. So much so, that he has received immense acclaim for it. Audiences, critics, and fellow actors, all have sung praises of his talent. Another addition to this list is the rebound, Jeff Bezos, who recently revealed that he loved Downey’s character.

Jeff Bezos Loved Robert Downey Jr. in Oppenheimer

Jeff Bezos recently did an interview with Business Insider where he went into great detail about his life. Outside of talking about Amazon in general, oddly enough, the entrepreneur talked about one of the most successful films of 2023. He mentioned that he recently watched Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and he loved this movie.

“I don’t know if you saw the movie Oppenheimer. First of all, I loved the movie. I thought the best part of the movie is this bureaucrat played by Robert Downey Jr., who some of the people I’ve talked to think that’s the most boring part of the movie.”

One of the highlights from this film, for him personally, was Robert Downey Jr.’s character, Lewis Strauss. Interestingly however, he received a lot of feedback from people, who believe that he was the most boring part of the film. Bezos does not agree with the sentiment, stating that he found him rather fascinating and not boring at all.

Jeff Bezos Loved The Social Commentary In This Film

Jeff Bezos then went on to state that he thinks that this film shows some sort of social commentary when it comes to humans and nuclear weapons. He talked about the invention of the atomic bomb, stating that while it is cool and awesome on paper, these weapons are very powerful and highly destructive.

“I thought it was the most fascinating because what’s going on here is you realize we have invented these awesome, destructive, powerful technologies called nuclear weapons, and we humans, we’re not really capable of wielding these weapons. And that’s what he represented in that movie.”

He added that considering the amount of damage that these can do, humans should not wield these weapons. This is perfectly shown in Oppenheimer by Christopher Nolan, not only by showing emphasis on the damage that these bombs caused in human lives but also also the psychological impact it had on Robert J. Oppenheimer. Bezos mentioned exactly this, stating that this is what he thinks is one of the best parts of the movie.
