Tucker Seeks a Christmas Miracle — and Billy Puts Mamie on Notice

v

At the Abbott house, Traci, Jack, and Diane decorate the Christmas tree. One ornament was from Katherine and another from Luan. Jack laments that Allie and Noah can’t leave London to join them.

Kyle comes in with Harrison and hugs abound. Kyle lifts Harrison up to put the star on the tree and Diane goes on about how happy she is. Traci says her favorite thing about Christmas is the love of this family, which gets stronger with each passing year. Diane takes Kyle aside and notes it’s his first Christmas without Summer, “I’m sorry.” Kyle reassures her and they all go back to decorating with the keepsake ornaments. Kyle gets a text from Tucker, who wants to know if he’s made any progress.

At the GCAC, Ashley tells Abby and Devon how much she loves Christmas. Abby says she likes buying Dom presents and warns there will be no puppies. They toast and Devon invites Ashley to join them at some point on Christmas day. Abby crows that it’s their first Christmas together as a family. Ash asks if they’ve made any plans with Tucker. Abby sighs.

Abby tells Ashley they haven’t talked about it. Ashley supports them allowing Tucker to see Dom, but she doesn’t want to share egg nog with him. Devon steps away to take a call and Ashley tells Abby the best gift is seeing her happy and in love. Abby wants the same for her and will never forgive Tucker for what he did. He shouldn’t have been allowed back in Genoa City after what happened in Paris.

Tucker enters his suite singing and opens a package he brought in — it’s a set of toy musical instruments. He pulls out the tambourine and taps on it, and then opens a little t-shirt that says, “Grandpa’s little rock star.” He leans back on the sofa and thinks.

Phyllis walks into Society and smiles when she sees Summer laughing at a table with Chance. They dish about the concert the night before and flash to the great time they had in the middle of a huge crowd. Summer marvels about meeting the band backstage, “I am spoiled for life.” Phyllis approaches and says she could feel the vibes from across the room, “What has you so excited.” Summer gushes about the Say Jump show and thanks Chance again for inviting her. Chance mentions her using Sharon’s ticket. Summer tells her mother she had a last-minute business meeting. Chance has a meeting and Phyllis questions him about working for Jill. Chance says she and his mom didn’t give him much of a choice. Summer thinks it may be just what he needs. Chance thanks her again for coming to the concert and then leaves.

Phyllis eyeballs Summer, who warns her, “Don’t do that. That smile. It was a one-time thing, that’s it.” Summer tells her mother to stop looking at Chance like he’s son-in-law material. She admits, however, that last night was incredible and amazing, “For just a few hours I could forget that it’s almost Christmas and I’m not with Kyle and Harrison decorating the tree.” Phyllis understands and she’s sorry. But she’s happy that her daughter was happy with a really good guy. Summer wishes she didn’t feel this way about Chance. She won’t act on it. Chance is with Sharon and if he didn’t want to be, he wouldn’t be. Phyllis says people settle all the time. Summer asks her to please stop. “What’s new with you?” Phyllis replies, “Tucker McCall.”

Phyllis tells Summer that McCall had the gall to offer her a job. Summer hopes she said no. Phyllis confides that it was a great job; she’d oversee the entire IT division at his new company instead of working for someone who works for someone, who works for someone at Omegasphere. Summer gawps at her lack of loyalty toward Daniel, who took a chance on her when no one would. Phyllis says he’s just put her there to keep an eye on her. Summer knows she and Tucker hate each other — why would he even want her? Phyllis says it’s because she’s good at what she does. He knows what she has to give and that she takes no prisoners. They’re both out for number one so it’s a symbiotic relationship. It feels good to be appreciated and he’s also offering her quadruple her salary. Summer marvels, “You’re really considering taking this job, aren’t you?”

Mamie and Nate walk into Chancellor-Winters, and he muses that the last time he was there it was ugly. Mamie thinks his return on a trial basis will soon become permanent. He learned from his mistakes and belongs at the family company. “You should just step up into this moment.” She’s sure their family will accomplish great things together. Nate has a question for her, “Are there going to be anymore surprises from you?” Mamie muses that surprises keep life interesting. Nate warns it can be bad for business. She’s breathed new energy into the company, but she partnered with Tucker, which is problematic. Mamie is done with him, but she still wants Jill out of the business. Billy appears and says, “And I’m here to make sure you don’t succeed.”

Mamie tells Billy his mom’s not there. Billy explains he’ll be setting up in Lily’s office — he can see they haven’t heard yet that he’s back. Nate said Devon mentioned it was a possibility. Mamie asks, “And in what capacity, might I ask?” Billy says he’ll be co-CEO alongside Devon while Lily’s gone. Nate reminds him he walked out on the job and Lily the last time he was there. Billy reminds Nate, in turn, what he did. He suggests they focus on what’s ahead. Mamie thinks it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

Mamie muses about Billy becoming co-CEO and thinks his mother must be very pleased with herself right now. Billy believes she is. Mamie tells him that Nate has already made a real difference. Billy thinks Nate doing product and content development is perfect for him… as long as he focuses on the work and not his personal agenda. He admits he’s surprised they gave him another chance. Nate tells Billy his opinion is irrelevant. Billy points out that he’s his boss. Mamie reminds them they need to work together to present a united front against Tucker. Billy says that would be easier if they could trust that her relationship with McCall is really over. Mamie thinks they need to stop poking at each other. Billy will give Nate the benefit of the doubt and warns Mamie he’ll keep an eye on her. She sassily replies that she’d better make sure he enjoys the view. Billy exits and Nate asks if she’s worried. Mamie chuckles “Do I look worried? I’ve got Jill Abbott running scared.”

Tucker comes downstairs to the dining room, where he spots Devon finishing up his phone call. He hopes this won’t be his only opportunity to wish him a Merry Christmas.

In the dining room, Ashley tells Abby she doesn’t want her issues with Tucker to affect her family’s relationship with him. Abby complains that he hurts everyone who tries to give him a chance. Devon deserves better. Ashley says Tucker gets on the floor and plays, and she can’t deny the joy in his eyes. Dom adores him. Abby complains that he lies as easily as he breathes, even to his own son. Ashley clucks that it’s a shame. She alludes to him being “dealt with” and Abby asks, “How?” Ashley says she’ll find out soon enough. He won’t be a threat to Jabot anymore and probably not to anyone else either. She warns that he’ll be angry and it will negatively affect his relationship with Devon. Abby will protect her loved ones. Ashley can’t understand why she cares, “I think I don’t want to admit that the love I had for him was just nothing.” Abby can’t be nice to the guy. Ashley asks if she can tolerate him. Abby can if her mother promises never to get back with him. Ashley promises.

By the door, Tucker tells Devon that he has a Santa-sized bag of presents for Dom and wants to drop them off. Devon isn’t sure that’s a good idea, but relents and tells him to drop them off. Tucker, glancing over at Abby and Ashley, tells Devon he knows this is a lot to ask, “But is there any chance we could spend Christmas Eve together?” Devon nixes the idea. They don’t have time for drama or agendas. He doesn’t need him trying to worm his way back in. He reminds Tucker he lied to him too many times. Being on the outside looking in is due to his own actions. Tucker would still like a Christmas truce. Devon replies, “No thanks.”

Devon rejoins Ashley and Abby and tells them that Tucker’s going to drop off gifts on Christmas Day, “The guy’s a lost cause.” Ashley says he is for her, but not for them.

Outside the Abbott house, Jack and Kyle enthuse about ruining Tucker. Kyle crows about the one-two punch they’re going to deliver. Jack thinks his son showed incredible courage and has been McCall at his own game. He apologizes if he made decisions that hurt him. “You are the best part of us.” He is incredibly proud. Jack is sure Tucker will slink off to some ashram by New Year’s, “He has no idea what’s about to hit him. This is going to take him out. He is gone.” Kyle isn’t as confident, but it’s all he wants. Jack credits Kyle for protecting the family and the company. Kyle hopes he’ll make him co-CEO after all this is over. “It means a lot to me, Dad.” Jack says, “It may mean more to me.”

At Society, Phyllis insists she’s not going to take the job offer from Tucker. Summer sighs, “It’s never going to end with you, is it?” She’s realized that her mom wants to take the job and wants her to tell her it’s OK. She reminds her she hates Tucker and that he is going after the Abbotts. Whatever salary he’s offered her is a bribe and unethical. If she leaves Omegasphere, she’ll break Daniel’s heart. Phyllis says she’s got it. Summer tells her there’s something else. “Mom, if you take this job with Tucker, I’m not going to trust you again.”

At Chancellor-Winters, Mamie tells Nate that she knows how Jill thinks, “She’s building up her troops.” Nate observes that it’s not much different from her, “Maybe she’s just bringing in reinforcements to go against Tucker.” He feels it’s a problem for the company to have an internal power struggle. Mamie hears him, but what’s between her and Jill isn’t settled yet. Nate warned her before, it’s a very bad idea to make a power play against Jill. It’s an even worse idea to make one against her and her now co-CEO son, Billy.

At Crimson Lights, Billy tells Chance it’s great to have him on board. He spoke to Jill last tight and they think he’ll be a real asset. It it’s up to her, he’ll have a corner office in no time. Chance wants to earn it. Billy thinks he’ll be his mentor. If Chance has questions or concerns, he’s at his disposal. Chance appreciates Jill offering him the job and he’s looking forward to all of it, “But mentoring… Can I be honest with you, Billy?” He’s heard of his history in the corporate world and is curious what him mentoring him would look like.

Outside the Abbott mansion, Jack reminds Kyle he has to keep up the illusion of being the disgruntled son for Tucker. Ashley walks up and asks them not to mention Tucker today. Jack says, “Your holiday wish is my command.” They head inside.

Ashley greets Traci and the others in the living room and can’t believe they decorated the tree without her. Jack assures her they saved her favorite ornament for her to hang. Kyle steps aside to look through the ornaments. Diane asks him if he spoke to his father about the co-CEO position. Kyle tells her that what he wants won’t be under the tree, but it’s on its way. Diane’s thrilled. The festivities continue.

At Society, Summer says she thought her mother wanted to change. Phyllis is trying to be a better person and insists she hasn’t considered working with Tucker. It’s in everything she’s not saying. Phyllis protests but just then, Tucker walks in. Summer accuses Phyllis of meeting with him. Phyllis denies it. Summer tells Tucker to stay away from her mom and preying on her perceived weaknesses, “She doesn’t want anything to do with you.” With that, Summer storms out. Phyllis tells Tucker, “I’m sorry about that.” He thinks she obviously told her about his offer, which means she’s considering it. Phyllis informs him that there’s no way in hell she’ll ever work with him. Tucker smirks.
