WWE Backlash delivered one of the wildest premium live events of the year as championships were defended, rivalries exploded, and several WWE Superstars pushed themselves to the limit inside the ring.
The night opened with Bron Breakker scoring a massive victory over Seth Rollins in a brutal and physical showdown. Breakker immediately charged for a Spear at the opening bell, but Rollins countered early and used his experience to slow down the powerhouse. Momentum shifted dramatically after Breakker launched Rollins over the top rope with a devastating suplex before repeatedly punishing him with clotheslines and power moves.
Rollins battled back with a superplex, Pedigree, and Stomp while surviving several dangerous Spear attempts. However, after distractions involving Austin Theory and Logan Paul at ringside gave Breakker valuable time to recover, the young star countered an Avalanche Stomp with a crushing Spear before ending the match with a devastating Torpedo Spear to secure one of the biggest wins of his career.
United States Champion Trick Williams successfully retained his championship against Sami Zayn in a chaotic rematch filled with weapons, outside interference, and controversial moments. Williams controlled the early part of the match with his size and athleticism while the crowd loudly chanted “Whoop That Trick.”
The match escalated when Zayn teased using steel steps before pretending to injure his knee as part of a strategy to attack Williams with a candy cane Kendo stick. Rapper Lil Yachty later became involved by striking Zayn with the same weapon. Zayn retaliated by attacking Lil Yachty and driving Williams onto the steel steps with a DDT, but after hitting a Helluva Kick on the rapper, he was caught off guard by a sudden Trick Shot from Williams that ended the match.
Another emotional highlight came when IYO SKY defeated Asuka in a deeply personal battle between former allies. Both women exchanged brutal strikes, dangerous submission holds, and dramatic near-falls throughout the match. Asuka repeatedly trapped SKY in the Asuka Lock and an armbar, while SKY relied on her speed and resilience to survive the punishment.
The fight spilled outside the ring when Asuka attempted to spray mist into SKY’s face, but SKY blocked it using Wade Barrett’s notebook at the announce desk. Back inside the ring, SKY escaped another submission attempt before climbing to the top rope and landing a decisive Over The Moonsault for the victory. After the match, the longtime rivals embraced in an emotional moment that received a huge ovation from the Tampa crowd.
The main event saw Roman Reigns defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Jacob Fatu in a violent family war that nearly tore the arena apart. Fatu immediately proved he belonged in the main event scene by overwhelming Reigns with his power and aggression, repeatedly trapping the champion in the dangerous Tongan Death Grip.
Despite connecting with multiple Superman Punches and Spears, Reigns struggled to keep Fatu down. The challenger powerbombed Reigns through the announce table and nearly won after delivering a Pop-up Samoan Drop followed by a Moonsault. Fatu later locked in another Tongan Death Grip while the referee was accidentally taken out during the chaos.
With no referee available, Reigns exposed the turnbuckle and drove Fatu into it during another submission attempt before hitting one final Spear to retain the championship.
However, the chaos continued after the match ended.
A furious Fatu completely snapped, attacking Reigns again and destroying the referee with a Pop-up Samoan Drop while WWE officials rushed the ring to restore order. Fatu then locked Reigns in the Tongan Death Grip for an extended period before finally releasing him and standing tall over his cousin while raising the World Heavyweight Championship above his head.
The shocking ending left fans questioning whether the Bloodline civil war has only just begun.
