This year saw Holmes Chapel’s status as a place of Harry Styles pilgrimage formalised

A new documentary on Cheshire’s most famous son, Harry Styles, airs on December 27. The documentary follows members of the pop star’s legions of fans.

Described in the Channel 5 documentary as a ‘global phenomenon’ who was once ‘simply a cheeky lad from Cheshire’, the pop sensation and fashion icon grew up in the village of Holmes Chapel. The village, almost on top of the M6, has been no stranger to Harry’s army of fans since his One Direction days.

This year, the town’s status as a pilgrimage site for Harry Styles fanatics was formalised when the Holmes Chapel Partnership published a walking route for fans to follow between landmarks connected to the star. The Partnership declared that Harry was “now a global star,” and that there were now “even more fans making the pilgrimage to Holmes Chapel to see the sights of his teenage years.”

The previous September, local councillor Andrew Kolker raised the issue of “a lot of teenagers … coming to see the sights and sounds of Harry Styles.” Cllr Kolker was concerned that visitors were walking along the “extremely dangerous” A535 to get to the supposed site of Harry’s first kiss, the Twemlow Viaduct.

One of the arches is covered in graffiti from fans visiting across the world, with many scratching ‘Harry’ into the brick. The route takes fans to the viaduct along a River Dane footpath to ‘Harry’s Wall’.

The walking route also takes visitors to Harry’s favourite Chinese restaurant, Fortune City. The restaurant and takeaway, on the same road Harry grew up on, London Road, was the place Harry chose to take then-girlfriend and fellow global megastar Taylor Swift to when the pair visited the quaint village.
