Jake Gyllenhaal admits filming intimate scenes with Anne Hathaway was an amazing experience.
Bed scenes are always challenging and sometimes awful, but for Jake Gyllenhaal, they prove blissful especially when working with Anne Hathaway. The actor admitted he has intimately paired with the actress twice, and joked that he would even ‘recommend her’ to other men. That is, of course, in movies.
Brokeback Mountain
The duo has co-starred in 2005’s Brokeback Mountain and 2010’s Love & Other Drugs. Working together on those scenes made them very comfortable with each other, so there was no inhibition the second time around.
Jake Gyllenhaal Shares Experience Filming Intimate Scenes With Anne Hathaway
During the Love & Other Drugs press tour, actor Jake Gyllenhaal admitted that he was very much at ease filming the romantic scenes with Anne Hathaway because they have done it before in a previous movie. He stated via Unilad:
“I’m lucky. Annie and I had already had s*x on film in Brokeback Mountain, so I wasn’t too nervous. There’s something about the way Annie and I both work which is inherently very musical. It’s all about rhythm. There’s a rhythm to writing, there’s a rhythm to sports, and there’s a rhythm to s*x. I recommend getting in bed with Anne Hathaway to any man.”
Gyllenhaal surely enjoyed rehearsing and filming scenes with The Princess Diaries actress, not only because they are both professional but because they have great chemistry that seamlessly translates onto the screen.
Love & Other Drugs
The 41-year-old actress has a different story to tell. She admitted to having a mishap on the production set which she called an unforgettable moment. Hathaway confessed:
“We’d been shooting for a few hours, the ice was broken, and everything was fine, we were just back from lunch, and I’d gone behind the set and was talking to someone. Then all of a sudden someone whispers, ‘Annie you’re on!’ ”
She thought that the cameras were already rolling because people were silent and just talking in whispers. Immediately, she removed her coat and she was all bare. Gyllenhaal was also confused. It turns out that this is not the case.
“I realize the camera is in a different place, and we’re still rehearsing, and that I got naked unnecessarily in front of everyone! So then I pulled my trench coat on very quickly, and it was obviously a case of life imitating art!”
That is definitely an embarrassing moment, though it earned Hathaway a nomination for Best Actress at the Golden Globe Awards and a win for the same title at the Satellite Awards.
Anne Hathaway Remained Just Friends With Jake Gyllenhaal
Love & Other Drugs
Despite performing intimate scenes in movies a couple of times, Anne Hathaway admitted her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal remains friendly. She told Entertainment Weekly:
“It was more of a bump-into-each-other casual thing. I was always happy to see you [Gyllenhaal], but we didn’t really reach out to each other. I kind of felt more bonded to you than I felt that we were friends. I now have a go-to cooking teacher, which is wonderful.”
She also noted via Cosmopolitan that going n*de on movies is not a problem for her and wished that other actors who also had to do the same task would always feel safe on set:
“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with n*dity in film, and I would hope that any actor that is asked to reveal that part of themselves has as loving and open an experience as we had.”
Gyllenhaal and Hathaway’s experience in shooting intimate scenes for the screen is one of the few accounts that tell a healthy working relationship free from malice or any other traumatic events.
