Bhad Bhabie Explodes Over “Blackfishing” Accusations As Social Media Debate Spirals Again
Rapper and internet personality Bhad Bhabie is once again at the center of a viral controversy after firing back at critics accusing her of “Blackfishing” — a term used online to describe non-Black influencers who are perceived to imitate Black aesthetics for attention or profit.
The drama reignited after resurfaced photos comparing Bhad Bhabie’s appearance over the years began circulating heavily across social media platforms. Critics pointed to her darker makeup, hairstyles, and overall image transformation as evidence that she was allegedly trying to appear Black.
But the “Gucci Flip Flops” rapper wasn’t staying silent.
In a series of emotional Instagram Story posts — many of which were later deleted — Bhad Bhabie strongly denied ever attempting to change her race or identity. Instead, she blamed the drastic shift in her appearance on growing older, cosmetic enhancements, tanning, and years spent under heavy public scrutiny.
“I have never a day in my life said I wanted to be any other race but the race that I am,” she wrote. “I am white. I’m Italian and Jewish.”
The 23-year-old also claimed that people online have criticized her no matter what look she chooses. According to Bhabie, even when she experimented with lighter makeup and blonde hair, accusations of “trying to be Black” continued flooding her comments.
She also revealed frustration toward her former management team, alleging they controlled parts of her image during the peak of her early fame. Bhabie claimed she was pressured into maintaining certain hairstyles and aesthetics for years while her viral celebrity status exploded following her infamous “Cash Me Outside” moment.
Still, her explanation only intensified the internet firestorm.
While some fans defended the rapper and argued she has become an easy target for online hate, others accused her of completely misunderstanding why the criticism exists in the first place. Across X, TikTok, and Instagram, users argued the issue was never about what race Bhad Bhabie identifies as — but rather the way certain aesthetics associated with Black culture are used for popularity, branding, and viral attention.
The backlash quickly turned into another culture-war debate online, with thousands of users divided over whether the rapper is being unfairly attacked or rightfully called out.
