Rain slammed against the windows of the Moretti mansion as thunder echoed across the hills outside Chicago.
Inside, the atmosphere was cold and silent like always.
Nobody laughed inside Luca Moretti’s home.
Nobody relaxed.
Because one wrong move around the feared mafia boss could cost people everything.
Luca sat alone in his office reviewing documents while armed guards patrolled the mansion halls.
Then suddenly—
BANG. BANG. BANG.
Loud knocking echoed through the front door.
The guards immediately reached for weapons.
Nobody visited the Moretti estate without permission.
Especially not in the middle of the night.

One guard cautiously opened the door.
Standing outside in the pouring rain was a pregnant woman trembling violently from fear and exhaustion.
Her face was bruised.
Blood stained the sleeve of her sweater.
And one hand desperately protected her stomach.
“Please…” she whispered weakly. “I need help.”
The guards exchanged confused looks.
“You got the wrong house.”
But before they could shut the door, the woman suddenly collapsed onto her knees.
“They’re trying to k*ll my baby,” she cried.
The words instantly caught Luca’s attention upstairs.
Slowly, the mafia boss appeared at the top of the staircase.
Tall.
Cold.
Terrifying.
The woman looked up at him with tears streaming down her face.
“Please… don’t let them find me.”
Luca walked downstairs silently while thunder shook the mansion.
When he finally stood in front of her, his expression remained unreadable.
“Who’s after you?”
The woman swallowed shakily.
“My husband.”
The room went silent.
“He works for Viktor Salazar,” she whispered fearfully. “I overheard things I wasn’t supposed to hear… now they want me gone before the baby is born.”
Several guards cursed quietly under their breath.
Everyone knew Salazar.
One of the most violent crime bosses on the East Coast.
Helping this woman wouldn’t just create problems.
It could start a war.
One of Luca’s men stepped closer carefully.
“Boss… this isn’t our fight.”
For several long seconds, Luca said nothing.
Then his eyes slowly moved toward the woman’s trembling hands protecting her stomach.
Something in his expression changed.
Years ago, Luca’s own mother died protecting him during a gang attack when he was still a child.
And suddenly…
The terrified woman kneeling in front of him reminded him of her.
“What’s your name?” Luca asked quietly.
“Sofia.”
Luca looked toward the guards.
“Bring her inside.”
The room froze.
“Boss?” one man asked nervously.
Luca’s voice turned ice cold.
“That wasn’t a suggestion.”
The guards moved immediately.
Sofia nearly broke down crying from relief as they helped her inside the mansion.
But only minutes later—
Headlights flashed outside the gates.
Black SUVs.
Fast.
Aggressive.
One guard rushed toward Luca.
“They found her.”
Sofia’s face instantly lost all color.
“Oh God…”
Luca calmly adjusted the cuffs of his black shirt before looking toward his men.
“Lock the gates.”
Weapons clicked throughout the mansion.
The atmosphere instantly turned deadly.
Sofia stared at Luca in disbelief.
“You’re risking your life for someone you don’t even know.”
Luca slowly looked at her.
Then at her stomach.
And for the first time that night, his voice softened slightly.
“No child deserves to pay for the sins of adults.”
Seconds later, gunshots exploded outside the mansion.
BANG.
BANG.
BANG.
The attack had begun.
But while chaos erupted beyond the gates, Luca stood directly in front of Sofia like a wall protecting her from the violence outside.
Tears filled Sofia’s eyes.
“Why are you doing this?”
Luca remained silent for several seconds before finally answering:
“Because nobody protected my mother.”
The battle lasted nearly thirty minutes before silence finally returned.
By morning, burned SUVs filled the driveway while Sofia sat safely near the fireplace wrapped in blankets.
Luca stood quietly by the window watching the sunrise.
One of his guards approached carefully.
“Boss… Salazar won’t forget this.”
Luca’s expression remained cold.
“Neither will I.”
Then behind him, Sofia suddenly whispered:
“Thank you.”
For the first time in years, the feared mafia boss looked back at someone with something other than anger in his eyes.
And deep down…
He realized saving one terrified mother and her unborn child felt more important than all the power he had ever built.
