Everyone in Los Angeles feared Roman DeLuca.
The black luxury cars.
The armed bodyguards.
The cold stare that made grown men look away.
As one of the most powerful mafia bosses on the West Coast, Roman controlled casinos, nightclubs, and half the city’s underground world.
But despite all his power, Roman trusted nobody.
Years of betrayal had turned him cold.
People lied to him for money.
Smiled at him for favors.
Pretended to care whenever they wanted something.
So one rainy evening, Roman decided to test something.
Or rather…
Someone.

After a late-night business meeting downtown, Roman’s convoy stopped at a red light near a small grocery store.
That was when he noticed her.
A homeless woman sitting beside the sidewalk with a little boy asleep against her chest.
She looked exhausted.
Cold.
Hungry.
But despite clearly struggling herself, she gently wrapped her thin jacket around the sleeping child to keep him warm.
Roman watched silently through the tinted car window.
One of his bodyguards glanced outside and smirked.
“Want me to move her, boss?”
But Roman slowly shook his head.
Something about her reminded him of his mother years ago.
Poor.
Alone.
Forgotten by everyone.
Without warning, Roman opened the car door and stepped out into the rain.
The woman immediately looked terrified.
People nearby froze when they recognized him.
Roman crouched slightly in front of her.
“What’s your name?”
The woman hesitated nervously.
“Emma.”
Roman glanced at the sleeping child.
“Your son?”
Emma nodded quietly.
“He hasn’t eaten since yesterday,” she admitted softly, embarrassed.
For several seconds, Roman said nothing.
Then suddenly, he pulled a black credit card from his wallet and handed it to her.
The bodyguards looked shocked instantly.
Even Emma stared at him in disbelief.
“I-I can’t take this.”
Roman’s expression remained unreadable.
“Buy food. Clothes. A hotel room.”
Emma looked down at the expensive card with trembling hands.
“There’s no limit on it,” Roman added calmly.
The street became silent.
One bodyguard stepped closer nervously.
“Boss…”
Roman ignored him.
Instead, he looked directly into Emma’s eyes.
“But understand something,” he said quietly. “I’ll know exactly what you spend it on.”
Emma swallowed hard.
Then slowly nodded.
“Okay.”
Roman handed her a small piece of paper with a phone number.
“Call this number tomorrow morning.”
Then without another word, the mafia boss returned to his SUV and disappeared into the rain.
Inside the vehicle, one of his men finally asked:
“You really think she’ll use it for the kid?”
Roman stared quietly out the window.
“I guess we’ll find out.”
The next morning, Roman sat inside his office reviewing financial reports when one of his guards suddenly entered looking confused.
“Boss… you need to see this.”
The guard handed him a printed receipt report connected to the credit card.
Roman glanced down.
Then froze.
No designer stores.
No jewelry.
No expensive purchases.
Instead:
Baby food.
Children’s medicine.
A cheap motel room.
Warm clothes for the little boy.
And one final purchase.
A small bouquet of white flowers.
Roman frowned slightly.
“Flowers?”
Later that evening, curiosity drove him to follow the transaction address himself.
The flowers had been purchased near a cemetery.
When Roman arrived, he spotted Emma standing quietly beside an old grave while her son played nearby.
The little boy now wore clean clothes and looked healthier already.
Emma carefully placed the flowers in front of the gravestone.
Then softly whispered:
“I’m sorry it took me so long to visit, Mom.”
Roman froze.
Rain fell quietly around the cemetery as Emma wiped tears from her face.
“I finally had enough money for flowers,” she whispered emotionally.
For several seconds, Roman couldn’t move.
Because suddenly…
He remembered his own mother.
The woman who worked three jobs before dying broke and forgotten while powerful men ignored her suffering.
Emma suddenly turned and gasped when she saw him standing there.
Fear instantly crossed her face.
“I swear I didn’t waste your money,” she said quickly. “I only bought what my son needed and—”
Roman interrupted quietly.
“You spent the last of it on your mother.”
Emma lowered her eyes.
“She deserved flowers at least once.”
Silence filled the cemetery.
Then, to Emma’s shock, Roman’s eyes slowly filled with tears.
The feared mafia boss looked away quickly, embarrassed by his own emotions.
But it was too late.
Because for the first time in years…
Someone had reminded him what a good heart looked like.
Roman slowly reached into his coat pocket and handed Emma another envelope.
She looked confused.
“What is this?”
“A fresh start,” Roman said quietly.
Emma’s hands trembled as she opened it.
Inside was enough money to completely change her life.
She looked up at him speechlessly.
“Why would you help me?”
Roman glanced toward the flowers resting on the grave.
Then softly answered:
“Because even when you had almost nothing… you still chose kindness first.”
And for the first time in many years…
The feared mafia boss walked away feeling human again.
