Compared to its first spinoff The Boys Presents: Diabolical, where only a few animated episodes were considered canon, Gen V‘s first season directly correlates with the events of The Boys. Throughout the season, protagonist Marie Moreau and her Godolkin University allies interacted with figures like Congresswoman Victoria Neuman and Vought International CEO Ashley Barnett, all while uncovering the college’s true purpose as a place to study Compound V metahumans. Running subplots, meanwhile, included Godolkin higher-ups develop a virus capable of killing superheroes in their facility “the Woods” and teenage metahumans aligning with superhero extremist beliefs voiced by Stormfront and Homelander. The season ended with students Cate Dunlap and Sam Riordan releasing multiple experimented supes from the Woods and Marie and her friends trying to stop them, only for Homelander to attack Marie upon arriving at the scene. The season ended with Vought framing Cate and Sam as the heroes while locking Marie away, as well as a post-credits teaser of Billy Butcher discovering the Woods for himself.

The Boys Debuts New Trailer for Season 4

The Boys, meanwhile, recently dropped its official season 4 trailer, teasing new conflict between the Boys, the Seven, and even the general public via pro-Starlight and pro-Homelander factions. The trailer also featured glimpses of new superheroes Firecracker and Sage, as well as a conversation between Butcher and an unknown character played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Though showrunner Eric Kripke envisoned The Boys spanning five seasons, he recently suggested that it could go on longer, admitting “literally no one in history is worse at predicting the amount of seasons of a show, like literally. I have learned my lesson [with Supernatural] and I’ve stopped predicting how many seasons these shows go. You will find out in hindsight.”
