Emma Stone is reportedly in talks to reunite with her Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos in his next project, Save the Green Planet.
Emma Stone is positioned to reunite with Yorgos Lanthimos for his upcoming film Save the Green Planet. Stone previously worked with the director on last year’s Poor Things, for which she received an Oscar nomination for Best Leading Actress. Lanthimos recently announced his next project will be the upcoming sci-fi adaptation Save the Green Planet.
As per Variety, Stone is now in talks to star in Save the Green Planet. Stone’s potential role has yet to be confirmed, but the outlet guesses that she would likely be playing a supporting part. Production is expected to begin this summer.
Poor Things Proves Emma Stone Is The Perfect Pick For Save the Green Planet
Save the Green Planet is based on a 2003 Korean sci-fi film directed by Jang Joon-hwan. Its plot follows a young man who, with the help of his supportive girlfriend, captures and tortures a businessman who he believes to be a part of an alien invasion. What ensues is a battle of wits between these three characters and a private detective. Though Lanthimos could certainly gender swap any of the roles, it seems most likely that Stone would play the girlfriend out of these available characters.
In Poor Things , Stone exhibited the extent of her abilities in the realm of physical acting, brilliantly embodying the role of infant-brained woman Bella Baxter.
If Stone ends up confirmed to work on Save the Green Planet, it will expand the pair’s existing rapport, which is growing stronger with each project. The pair first worked together on The Favourite, which was also highly acclaimed. Stone has even participated in one of Lanthimos’ more experimental works, the silent short film Bleat, which was well-regarded at several festivals. Lanthimos and Stone have already been confirmed to be working together again on an anthology film called Kinds of Kindness.
Stone’s role in Poor Things is a particular indicator of her potential to succeed in Save the Green Planet. In the movie, she exhibited the extent of her abilities in the realm of physical acting, brilliantly embodying the role of infant-brained woman Bella Baxter. Lathimos’ predilections towards the unusual were brilliantly channeled through Stone, something that could be further expanded upon in the idiosyncratic sci-fi universe of Save the Green Planet.
