“I’m kind of into this boy-meets-girl with a six-inch heel vibe,” the singer reveals to PeopleStyle
Ariana Grande is undergoing a style transformation. The pop star is switching gears from ultra girly-girl (read: her mini skirt, bustier and cat ears uniform!) to a little more grunge.
“I kind of am in this vintage, ‘boy clothes’ phase — I guess boy clothes in quotes because it’s like what are girl clothes and what are boy clothes?” the “Dangerous Woman” singer asks herself while sitting down with PEOPLE to chat about everything style and beauty, including the newest scent added to her fragrance library, Sweet Like Candy. “I kind of feel like the Fresh Prince of Bel Air sometimes, but it’s kind of tight.”
But there’s one item from her former wardrobe that she’s not leaving behind. And it’s a definite Grande staple.
“I’m kind of into this boy-meets-girl with a six-inch heel vibe,” she says, wearing a pair of acid washed cropped jeans from Japan — which, in fact, she has “worn the absolute life out of” — with a vintage Space Jam t-shirt and, of course, six-inch booties.
“I feel like Lola Bunny that’s why I wore this shirt,” she shares. “Have you seen that thing on Facebook where you have to pick three fictional characters to describe yourself? I did it the other day, but I realized that I am Lola Bunny from Space Jam — like I am Lola Bunny. Even her hair. Look at her hair! It’s so funny.”
Grande’s gender-neutral aesthetic has even blended into her role in the beauty space. In addition to her first fragrance Ari by Ariana Grande, the singer launched a limited-edition, gender-inclusive eau de parfum spray called Frankie, which was named after her 32-year-old brother when he couldn’t resist covering himself in the marshmallow-inspired concoction.
Her latest newly released scent, Sweet Like Candy, combines a “luscious burst of sugar-frosted blackberry and juicy Italian bergamot” with the essential vanilla blend.
“Sweet Like Candy is a lyric from “Moonlight” on my album [Dangerous Woman],” says Grande of how the name her most current scent (which, naturally, boasts a fluffy light pink pom-pom) came to be. “It was one of the lyrics I teased from the album, so that’s always stuck with [my fans] and it was something special.”
Sweet Like Candy is available on virtual shelves now at ulta.com for $49 for 1.7 fl. oz.
