Ziggy was running around his family’s farm with his mother when he suddenly found a drainage pipe in the ground and disappeared into it.At first, his mother wasn’t too worried, as it was the third time the 10-year-old Patterdale terrier had disappeared into a hole, chasing something or just exploring. But after calling her name and waiting for her to reappear, she never did and she began to panic.“I was worried he might have gotten stuck and that’s why he didn’t show up,” Lauren Flintoft, Ziggy’s mother, said in a news release. “My husband Tim spent the whole night trying to lure him out and when he didn’t come out I called for help.”Flintoft contacted the RSPCA in the hope they could come and help rescue Ziggy from the drain pipe. Once rescuers arrived, the group was able to map the underground pipes and dig two huge holes to try to find out where Ziggy was.Finally, they saw him, and after removing some more clay and dirt, the lost puppy was able to crawl out of the hole. By the time they got to him, Ziggy had been trapped in the drain pipe for 19 hours.Fortunately, Ziggy was not injured and came out of the hole completely fine, just a little shaken. He is doing well and hopefully he will refrain from any more hole exploring adventures in the future, but probably not.“He is now back home with his owners, where he belongs,” Faebian Vann, an RSPCA animal collection officer, said in a news release, “and no doubt he will do something bad again very soon.”
