Lewis Hamilton thinks that Doriane Pin’s punishment in Jeddah was “ridiculous.”

The Briton, “mentor” of the young Frenchwoman for this first weekend in F1 Academy in Jeddah, believes that Doriane Pin did not deserve the penalty imposed after the incident at the end of Race 2 on Saturday.

A bittersweet weekend for Dorian Pin in Saudi Arabia. The Frenchwoman outclassed her opponents throughout this first meeting of the season in F1 Academy, with two pole positions and two successes on the track… before finally losing his second victory on Saturday, after applying a 20-second penalty.

The reason? At the finish of Race 2, Doriane Pin continued her effort one more lap, after a communication problem with her PREMA team, and crossed the checkered flag twice, which is prohibited by the regulations.

Ultimately, the Parisian was classified in 9th place in Race 2, and leaves Jeddah in 3rd position in the championship despite an almost perfect weekend. Obviously, the penalty imposed on Doriane Pin has caused a lot of talk since it was made official, since the 20-year-old driver was the victim of a radio problem and therefore was not responsible for this incident.

For Hamilton, Pin “did not deserve a penalty”

The protégé of the clan Mercedes was notably defended by Lewis Hamilton after the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The Briton, who acts as a mentor for Doriane Pin by accompanying her throughout the Saudi weekend, stepped up to denounce a penalty that he considers unfair for the Frenchwoman.

“It’s ridiculous, it’s disappointing for her. I’m sad to hear this because she did an amazing job this weekend, regrets Lewis Hamilton at the microphone of Canal+. She has great talent. When you arrive on the straight, you are so focused that you don’t see the flag. I don’t think it deserved a penalty. But I’m sure she will bounce back. »

Supported by the Silver Arrows and by the seven-time world champion, Doriane Pin will have the opportunity to bounce back in May for the second F1 Academy meeting, in Miami (May 3-5).
