World number one Scottie Scheffler has drawn comparisons to Tiger Woods with his tee-to-green play as of late. In an interview prior to The Players Championship, Scheffler gave a revealing answer on what he has learned from Tiger.

Scottie Scheffler gave a very revealing answer about Tiger at THE PLAYERS

When asked about Tiger, Scheffler reflected on being paired with him in the final round of the 2020 Masters. His response in the clip below, courtesy of Dylan Dethier from Golf magazine, is worth watching:

Scheffler touches on the fact that Tiger made a 10 on the 12th hole in that round. He was already out of contention, but that huge number completely took Woods out of the tournament. Most players in that situation would simply pack it in and go through the motions for the rest of the round, excited to get off the premises.

Instead, Woods went on to birdie 5 of the last 6 holes in that round.

Scheffler spoke about how impressive that was, especially since Tiger had absolutely nothing to prove as a five-time Masters champion and 15-time major championship winner.

That just speaks to the kind of competitor Tiger is and how his mindset is what has differentiated him from his peers just as much as his talent and work ethic. It is that “never quit” mentality that allowed Tiger to go 142 consecutive events in which he made the cut. That is a simply unbelievable record that will almost certainly never be broken.

Scheffler also spoke about how Tiger commits to every shot the same, whether it is Thursday or Sunday, he is always 100% keyed in on the shot at hand. That level of focus is what has made him so special over the years and has allowed him to overcome injury or bouts of poor play to return to the pinnacle of the sport time and time again.

Tiger may not be in the field this week at The Players, but his presence is definitely still felt. The way he played the game at his peak has influenced probably everyone in the field this week, especially Scheffler.
