A Wisconsin couple, Kevin McCall, 20, and Christina Davis, 23, have been arrested and charged with two counts of chronic neglect of a child after their 1-year-old daughter was found dead in her crib, allegedly after being given Fireball whiskey to make her “pass out.”

The tragic incident occurred on February 22, when police and emergency responders arrived at the couple’s residence to find the young child unresponsive and without a pulse. The child was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead shortly afterward. Davis’ 6-year-old daughter, from a previous relationship, reportedly told police that she was often tasked with babysitting the infant when the adults were away and allegedly witnessed the adults using alcohol to subdue the baby.

Allegations of Neglect and Abuse

According to the criminal complaint, Davis and McCall woke up at 9:30 a.m. on the day of the incident and ensured the children were asleep before leaving the house to buy food. Davis went to work later in the day, leaving McCall to care for the children. When she returned around 2 p.m., Davis claimed she saw her 6-year-old daughter being punished by McCall for taking the TV remote.

Upon noticing McCall busy fixing a video game controller, Davis went to check on the infant and found her “stiff” with her eyes rolling backward. She immediately instructed McCall to call 911. The child was found covered in urine and feces, and the home was described as “unkempt” with a “strong odor.”

Alcohol Allegations and the 6-Year-Old’s Testimony

The 6-year-old girl, when questioned by detectives, allegedly revealed that McCall and Davis often asked her to babysit her younger sister and showed her a bottle of “medicine” that was actually Fireball whiskey, which they allegedly used to make the baby “pass out.” The child reportedly told detectives, “I don’t think it is medicine.”

Davis denied giving the baby alcohol, calling her daughter’s testimony a lie, and claimed she only gave the toddler “cold and flu medication.” Davis also stated that she relied on her daughter to help around the house, as McCall allegedly did not assist with caregiving duties.

Charges and Legal Response

Both McCall and Davis were arrested and charged with two counts of chronic neglect of a child. They are currently being held at the Milwaukee County Jail on $10,000 bond.

In a statement, McCall’s attorney, Russell Jones, reminded the public that McCall is presumed innocent until proven guilty. “At this time, evidence has not been presented to a trier of fact; therefore, the defendant is presumed innocent,” Jones said.

Ongoing Investigation

The cause of the infant’s death remains under investigation, with the medical examiner stating that no signs of trauma, illness, or infection were found. The couple’s history of neglect and their child’s disturbing allegations have raised concerns about the children’s safety and well-being.
