‘It’s difficult’… Chris Sutton now says who should win Player of the Year – Rodri or Chelsea’s Cole Palmer

At the start of the season, no one would have put Chelsea attacker Cole Palmer in contention to win an award like PFA Player of the Year or Premier League Player of the Season.

Cole Palmer arrived at Chelsea from Manchester City with just 19 top-flight appearances to his name.

At this rate, though, it would be a surprise if he did not claim at least one accolade this term.

Palmer has been phenomenal for Chelsea, putting up some serious numbers.

In 38 appearances for the Blues, the 21-year-old has scored 23 goals and provided 13 assists in all competitions. Twenty of his strikes have come in the Premier League, making him the division’s top scorer alongside former team-mate Erling Haaland. Malo Gusto has now shared who he would rather play with out of the two.

Chris Sutton on who should win Player of the Year

There are other players in the Premier League who are also having outstanding seasons, including Rodri and Declan Rice, with both men helping their respective sides compete for the title.

Chris Sutton was recently asked on The Monday Night Club who he thinks should win the Player of the Year accolade.

In response, the former Chelsea striker said: “Rodri. I think it’s difficult. I mean, Cole Palmer sort of comes into it just because I’ve seen him score a hat-trick this evening, but Declan Rice I think just for his influence on this Arsenal team as much as anything else. I think he’s made a huge impact.”

Has Cole Palmer been the best player in the Premier League this season?

You can easily make an argument. He is the joint-top scorer in the competition and has bagged two hat-tricks.

Albeit from the spot, Palmer has goals against Rodri’s City, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, while he has also scored from open play twice in games versus Manchester United.

Those are not exactly small teams that Palmer has punished this season. His nine assists in the Premier League show that he is able to create goals as well.

The England international probably deserves to win something and not just PFA Young Player of the Year, which has to be a guarantee at this point.
