Young Thug is putting his emotions on wax and seemingly using music to clean up some personal drama left behind by his leaked jail calls.
The Atlanta rapper just released a new track titled “Man I Miss My Dogs,” and throughout the song, Thugger appears to apologize to several people close to him — including Drake, 21 Savage, Lil Baby and his girlfriend Mariah the Scientist — after private phone conversations from jail made headlines online.
The track opens on a personal note, with Young Thug addressing Mariah directly and admitting one of his biggest fears is losing her because of the internet and all the noise surrounding his life.
That apology hits even harder considering the controversy sparked by the leaked jail calls earlier this year. In those recordings, fans believed Thug admitted to cheating on Mariah before allegedly lying to cover it up, creating major online backlash and speculation about the status of their relationship.
But on the new song, Thug sounds focused on repairing the damage.
He also takes time to address Drake, making it clear there’s no bad blood despite some of the conversations that surfaced online while he was behind bars.
“Drizzy, you my brother / You know I ain’t going against you,” Thug raps before praising Drake’s impact on hip hop and reminding listeners that the Toronto superstar visited him during his time at Cobb County Jail.
He continues, “F*** the jail call, you know the other calls we had,” seemingly suggesting that leaked snippets didn’t reflect the full reality of their friendship.
21 Savage also gets a shoutout on the record after previously appearing in several lengthy jail phone conversations with Thug. On the song, Young Thug keeps it simple but meaningful, rapping, “Savage, you are a real n**** / Don’t let them tell you different.”
The emotional track arrived alongside a new music video on Thursday, giving fans another glimpse into Thug’s mindset following months of scrutiny surrounding the leaked calls.
This also isn’t the first time Thug has publicly tried to smooth things over after comments from the recordings went viral. Earlier this year, he already apologized to GloRilla after a separate jail conversation surfaced in which he called the Memphis rapper ugly while speaking with Mariah.
Now, with “Man I Miss My Dogs,” Young Thug appears to be addressing nearly everyone affected by the fallout — and doing it the way he knows best: through music.
