Snoop Dogg Seeks Dismissal From Drakeo the Ruler Wrongful Death Lawsuit
Rapper Snoop Dogg is pushing back against the wrongful death lawsuit tied to the fatal stabbing of Drakeo the Ruler, arguing that neither he nor his company should be held legally responsible for the tragedy.
According to newly filed court documents, Snoop’s company has requested a summary judgment, asking the judge to dismiss the claims brought by Drakeo’s brother against Snoop Dogg’s LLC.
In the filing, Snoop submitted a declaration stating that his company had no operational involvement in the 2021 Once Upon a Time in L.A. festival, where Drakeo was killed backstage after being stabbed. Snoop maintains that his role was strictly limited to performing at the event
The rapper further claims his company never signed any lease or licensing agreements connected to the festival and held no ownership or leasehold interest in Exposition Park, the venue where the fatal incident occurred.
According to the filing, Snoop’s legal team argues that no representatives from his company witnessed the attack, participated in event planning, hired security personnel, or had any relationship with the individuals responsible for Drakeo’s death.
The lawsuit was originally filed in 2022 by Drakeo’s brother, who alleged that security measures at the festival were dangerously inadequate. The legal complaint named multiple defendants, including Live Nation and LAFC, the Major League Soccer club that plays at BMO Stadium, where the stabbing occurred.
Notably, LAFC previously filed its own motion for summary judgment, which was reportedly granted earlier this month.
The case remains one of the most closely watched legal battles tied to the hip-hop world, as questions surrounding festival safety, artist liability, and event security continue to spark debate in the entertainment industry.
