UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON STUDENT FATALLY STABBED IN OFF-CAMPUS APARTMENT

Seattle, WA — Juniper Blessing, 19, a University of Washington student and choir singer, was fatally stabbed at an off-campus apartment over the weekend. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the death was a homicide caused by multiple stab wounds.

Blessing suffered approximately 40 stab wounds to the head, neck, shoulders, arms, and hands, according to court records obtained by KATV. Police arrested Christopher Leahy, 31, after he turned himself in at the Bellevue Police Department on May 13, hours after authorities released surveillance footage of a suspect. Leahy is charged with murder.

Witnesses and other students alleged that Leahy had been seen near the building’s laundry room around the time of the killing. Surveillance footage reportedly captured parts of the incident, even though some video from the timeframe had allegedly been deleted.

Blessing, formerly a student at the New Mexico School for the Arts, was recognized as a gifted singer and had been featured in a solo performance during a mixed-choir concert in December 2024. Their family described the loss as devastating. “Juniper’s loss not only devastates us but diminishes the world,” they said.

The same ammunition brand was tied to a 2022 homicide connected to Gathright and a separate 2023 attempt on Foolio’s life. That forensic thread helped prosecutors argue the killing was not an act of spontaneous violence but part of a sustained pattern of gang retaliation. Cell phone records, cell site data, and text messages further cemented the case. Gathright, who was 18 at the time of his arrest, took the stand during the sentencing phase and expressed remorse, describing a childhood split between a privileged upbringing in Mississippi and later exposure to street culture after moving to Jacksonville. He told the jury he had spent his two years in custody devoted to religion and hoped to mentor younger people. The jury was unmoved.
