Rookie guard Stephon Castle produced what many fans are already calling the dunk of the NBA playoffs during Wednesday night’s matchup, exploding through traffic and soaring over multiple Thunder defenders for a stunning poster finish.
Unfortunately for Oklahoma City center Isaiah Hartenstein, he ended up on the wrong side of the highlight that instantly took over social media.
The above-the-rim replay only made the moment look even more unbelievable, as Castle attacked the paint fearlessly before throwing down one of the most explosive playoff dunks in recent memory.
Some fans compared it to Jamal Cain’s viral poster dunk for the Orlando Magic earlier in the postseason, but given the intensity and stakes of Spurs vs. Thunder — a matchup featuring two of the NBA’s top contenders — many are already giving Castle the edge.
The former No. 4 overall pick continues to prove he could be the ideal long-term partner alongside Wembanyama. Through 12 playoff games, Castle has averaged 19.7 points, 6.5 assists, and 5 rebounds while also emerging as San Antonio’s top perimeter defender.
Still, despite the unforgettable dunk, Game 2 was a mixed night overall for the young guard.
Castle finished with 25 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds, but also committed 9 turnovers in the Spurs’ loss. Combined with the 11 turnovers he recorded in Game 1, Castle set an unfortunate NBA playoff record for the most turnovers ever across a two-game postseason span.
Even so, the performance reinforced one thing clearly: the Spurs may have found another franchise cornerstone alongside Wembanyama — and Castle is not afraid of the spotlight.
