Darius Rucker honored with Veterans Voice Award at 2026 American Music Awards for support of military community
Darius Rucker received a special honor at the 2026 American Music Awards after being presented with the Veterans Voice Award during the ceremony in Las Vegas on Monday, May 25.
The award, presented through USAA’s Honor Through Action initiative, recognizes artists who use their platform to create meaningful support and long-term impact for veterans and military families.
Rucker, 60, was recognized for his years of involvement with organizations supporting service members, including the Military Warriors Support Foundation, where he helped provide more than 20 mortgage-free homes to veterans.
The country music star has also participated in multiple overseas USO tours and events such as the Department of Defense Warrior Games, which support wounded veterans and active-duty military personnel.
During his acceptance speech, Rucker spoke about the importance of continuously supporting military families and ensuring their sacrifices are recognized beyond national holidays.
He reflected on conversations he has had with service members stationed around the world, saying those experiences changed his understanding of resilience and sacrifice.
According to Rucker, the impact of military service extends far beyond the individual in uniform and deeply affects spouses, children, parents, siblings, and entire communities.
The singer concluded his remarks by sharing a message from a veteran that deeply stayed with him: when thanked for his service, the veteran replied, “Thank you for living a life worth serving.”
Rucker said the quote serves as a reminder that communities should strive to honor the sacrifices made by military families through unity, support, and meaningful action.
Earlier in the broadcast, the former Hootie & the Blowfish frontman performed “Hold My Hand” and “Only Wanna Be with You” alongside his bandmates.
In a statement released ahead of the event, USAA praised Rucker for consistently supporting veterans both through philanthropy and music.
Officials from the American Music Awards also highlighted his long-standing commitment to military causes, describing him as someone who embodies the spirit of service and advocacy.
