Los Angeles — Lil Nas X has taken a major step toward putting his legal troubles behind him after a Los Angeles judge approved his entry into a mental health diversion program, potentially clearing the path to have his felony battery charges dismissed.
The Grammy-winning artist faced up to five years in prison after allegedly assaulting three police officers during an August 2025 encounter in Studio City, where he was reportedly walking in the street wearing only his underwear and white cowboy boots. He was initially transported to a hospital for a possible overdose before being booked on four felony counts, including battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.
Judge Alan Schneider noted in court that Hill “appears to be doing very well” and that with proper treatment, both he and society benefit. Hill’s attorney, Christy O’Connor, presented evidence showing the incident was out of character and linked to Hill’s bipolar disorder diagnosis.
Hill voluntarily admitted himself to The Meadows treatment facility in Arizona after the arrest, completing nearly two months of intensive inpatient care. He now follows a structured mental health plan including weekly therapy sessions and quarterly psychiatric appointments.
The court also imposed strict conditions prohibiting Hill from possessing weapons or making threats of violence. If he successfully completes the program over the next two years, the felony charges against him will be dismissed.
Outside the courthouse, Hill expressed gratitude, stating he is focused on his recovery. Deputy District Attorney Jodi Taksar remarked, “Hopefully, I’ll never see you again, except on a stage.”
Since the incident, Hill has shared updates with fans, emphasizing his commitment to treatment and stability. The new court decision gives him a clear path to continue his career and personal growth while maintaining legal compliance.
