Retired rugby player Mike Tindall recently revealed that Princess Kate is still a fan of a certain drinking game.
In an interview with Woman & Home, Tindall, 47, who is married to Prince William’s cousin Zara Tindall, shared that the royal family is highly competitive, especially when it comes to sports and games. Referencing a 2023 episode of his podcast The Good, The Bad & The Rugby featuring Kate, William, and Princess Anne, he said:
“I knew that the Princess of Wales was uber competitive because I’d seen her play a drinking game called beer pong, but normally we play Prosecco pong! She still plays it with us.”
The special podcast episode was filmed in the Green Drawing Room of Windsor Castle to coincide with the Rugby World Cup. During the conversation, Mike described Kate, 44, as highly competitive—a claim she coyly denied.
Princess Kate has previously been spotted enjoying drinks on the sidelines of Prince William’s polo matches, and in 2021 a family friend told PEOPLE that William would bring her a gin-and-tonic after the children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8, had gone to bed.
However, Kate has recently scaled back her alcohol intake following her cancer diagnosis in 2024. During a visit to the Southwark Brewing Company in London with William in March, she explained:
“Since my diagnosis, I haven’t had much alcohol. It’s something I have to be a lot more conscious of now.”
Kate added playfully, turning to William:
“But you like cider,” referencing his preferred drink.
The Princess of Wales had announced in March 2024 that she was undergoing treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer, discovered during abdominal surgery that January. She subsequently reduced her royal duties to focus on her health and announced in January 2025 that she was in remission.
Even with the lifestyle adjustments, it’s clear Kate retains her playful and competitive spirit, especially with family and close friends like Mike Tindall.
