After becoming the champion of the first professional wоmen’s volleyball tournament in Saudi Arabia, she joined her male football team for training and found herself standing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mané. Maria Cecília was overcome with emotion, unable to find the words to express her feelings. This meeting was arranged by Marcelo Salazar, who is not only the football manager for Al Nassr but also happens to be married to Marcela Scanni, the captain of the wоmen’s volleyball team. As they all traveled on the train, Maria Cecília also got the opportunity to mingle with other Brazilian players, namely Alex Telles, Talisca, and Otávio Monteiro who has Brazilian-Portuguese dual citizenship.

A 24-year-old named Maria Cecília hailing from Minas Gerais has recently been crowned champion and awarded the title of the best striker in the Saudi volleyball league. She joined the Arab club on August 16, two weeks prior to the commencement of the competition. The league entailed six clubs and was divided into two phases spanning from September 1st to 6th in Jeddah and from September 21st to 26th in Riyadh. Al Nassr emerged victorious by winning all six matches and claimed the title by defeating Al-Ittihad with a score of 3-0. Maria Cecília, originally from Patrocínio, began her volleyball journey at Catiguá before moving on to represent Minas, where she embarked on her professional career. In her inaugural season, she became part of the championship team for the 2018/2019 Superliga, South American, Copa do Brazil, Campeonato Mineiro, and acquired the runner-up position in the Club World Cup.

Maria Cecília, a former member of Minas’ main squad during the 2018/2019 season, has had quite the journey since then. She played for several different teams including São José dos Pinhais, Chapecó, Bradesco Esportes, and even Kairós in Portugal. However, her latest adventure took her to Saudi Arabia when an opportunity arose while she was on vacation in August. She is currently under contract with Al Nassr until December and the team is gearing up to compete in the Saudi Games in November in Riyadh after winning the Saudi League.
