ALLEGED DRIVER IN FATAL BAYSHORE CRASH RELEASED ON BOND AFTER SECOND ARREST
An 18-year-old man accused of causing the deaths of a young mother and her toddler in a high-speed crash on Bayshore Boulevard was released on bond Saturday evening following a morning hearing in Tampa.
Cameron Herrin, who was driving a Ford Mustang at the time of the incident, was granted a $50,000 bond. The judge imposed strict conditions on his release, including a prohibition on driving, mandatory use of a GPS monitoring device, and no contact with co-defendants. Herrin was also required to surrender his passport and is limited to travel only within Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.
According to police reports, the crash occurred around noon on Wednesday. Herrin was reportedly engaged in a street race with another vehicle driven by 17-year-old John Barrineau. Herrin’s 20-year-old brother was a passenger in the Mustang at the time.
Investigators allege that Herrin’s vehicle struck 24-year-old Jessica Raubenolt as she was pushing her nearly two-year-old daughter in a stroller. Both mother and child were transported to a nearby hospital, where they tragically succumbed to their injuries.
Initially, Herrin and Barrineau were charged with a single count of vehicular homicide. After the death of the child, authorities added a second count of vehicular homicide. In addition to homicide charges, Herrin, Barrineau, and Herrin’s brother face street racing-related charges, which remain under investigation.
The case has drawn widespread public attention due to the severity of the crash and the ages of the victims. Family members and the local community have expressed outrage over the incident, emphasizing the dangers of illegal street racing and reckless driving in heavily trafficked areas.
Herrin’s attorneys have argued for his release on bond, citing his youth and ties to the community, while prosecutors warned of the seriousness of the allegations and the impact on the victims’ families. The court’s decision reflects a balance between these considerations while ensuring monitoring and restrictions are in place to prevent further risk to the public.
