In a haunting case that has captivated the nation, the disappearance of Ana Maria Henao in February 2024 remains shrouded in mystery. The Florida real estate investor vanished from Madrid amid a tumultuous divorce from her estranged husband, David Knezevich, who later faced serious charges before his tragic death in custody.
Ana Maria, 40, was last seen entering her Madrid apartment on February 2, 2024, according to surveillance footage. Friends revealed that she had relocated to Spain in hopes of starting anew during a difficult separation from Knezevich. Reports indicate that the couple had built a substantial real estate empire together, valued at over $8 million, but tensions had escalated as Knezevich allegedly began selling properties without her consent.
Just hours before her disappearance, Ana Maria sent a text to friends indicating she was with someone new, but when communication ceased, concern grew. A chilling twist emerged as investigators reviewed security footage showing a man, presumed to be Knezevich, vandalizing the cameras in her building shortly before she went missing. This man was later seen leaving with a suitcase, which authorities suspect contained Ana Maria’s body.
The couple’s divorce had reportedly turned hostile, with allegations surfacing that Knezevich had siphoned off millions from their joint assets. Ana Maria’s brother, Felipe, filed a civil complaint claiming that Knezevich and his legal team had orchestrated fraudulent transactions that stripped his sister of her rightful equity.
In May 2024, three months after Ana Maria’s disappearance, Knezevich was arrested on charges including kidnapping and murder. Prosecutors alleged that he had traveled to Turkey shortly before her vanishing and returned to Spain, where he was captured on camera purchasing spray paint similar to that used in the vandalism incident.
Tragically, Knezevich’s story came to a sudden end in April 2025 when he was found unresponsive in his jail cell. His attorney confirmed that he died by suicide while awaiting trial, leaving many unanswered questions about Ana Maria’s fate. The family expressed their grief, noting that Knezevich’s death closed a painful chapter but also deepened the mystery surrounding their loved one.
Despite extensive investigations, Ana Maria’s body has never been recovered. The FBI has since declared their belief that she is deceased and is actively seeking information that could lead to her remains, offering a $25,000 reward for tips. They have released images of personal items belonging to her, hoping to jog someone’s memory.
As the investigation continues, the haunting question lingers: will Ana Maria Henao ever be found?
