In a chilling tale of friendship turned deadly, Frances Zaayer’s life took a dark turn after a heated feud with her former neighbors, Shawna and David Scott. This shocking story was brought to light in Netflix’s docuseries “Worst Neighbor Ever,” revealing the harrowing events that led to a tragic shooting in a small Kentucky town.

Zaayer, who once found solace with the Scott family during a tumultuous period in her life, became embroiled in a series of escalating conflicts with them. After going through a divorce, she sought refuge in their home in Mount Sterling, Kentucky, while waiting for her own house to be renovated. Initially, the arrangement seemed to work well, with the trio enjoying outings and bonding time. However, tensions soon escalated as Zaayer’s behavior became increasingly erratic.

By early 2017, Shawna felt compelled to ask Zaayer to leave their home due to her unsettling actions, which included scolding Shawna’s grandson and displaying troubling attitudes towards race. Just two months later, Zaayer moved into a house directly across the street, where her harassment of the Scotts only intensified.

The situation reached a boiling point in April 2017, when a physical altercation erupted between the two women, leading to Shawna’s arrest. While awaiting trial, Zaayer reportedly harbored resentment towards Shawna and her husband, David, who worked at a local jail. Despite Shawna’s release, the harassment continued, with Zaayer allegedly stalking the couple and making their lives unbearable.

The tragic climax occurred on May 26, 2018, when Zaayer entered the Scotts’ home and shot Shawna in the face before turning the gun on David, fatally wounding him. Shawna survived the attack but suffered life-altering injuries, including the loss of sight in one eye.

Frances Zaayer was apprehended shortly after the shooting and, in January 2022, accepted a plea deal that resulted in a 35-year prison sentence for murder and assault. During her sentencing, Shawna’s daughter expressed her anger and sorrow, stating she would never forgive Zaayer for the pain caused to their family.

Currently, Zaayer is incarcerated at the Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women, where she will be eligible for parole in 2038. Shawna remains haunted by the fear of Zaayer’s potential release, worrying about the safety of her family.
