Rosé (Blackpink): Happiness is simply playing the piano and singing

As the cover girl on the last month of 2022 issue of Vogue Hong Kong magazine, Rosé (Blackpink) shared about her journey from an unknown girl to a famous Korean singer, her passion music and steadfast pursuit of dreams.

Vogue Hong Kong commented that Rosé’s influence at the present time is almost beyond words.

As the main vocalist of Blackpink, Rosé’s wide vocal range has long been fondly called “golden voice” by many fans. Her debut solo single released in 2021, “On The Ground”, reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Global 200 chart, helping her become the first Kpop solo artist to achieve this impressive achievement.

However, Rosé is still a girl who knows how to play the piano, guitar and simply loves music. Perhaps as she once said: “Playing the piano and singing the songs you like is a happiness.” Rosé’s enchanting appeal comes from the purest things.

Passionate about music since childhood

Rosé is known as a multi-talented female idol who can proficiently use many musical instruments, such as the piano and guitar. Her mother was the one who enabled her to learn piano since she was young.

“At first I found it very difficult, but after learning the chords, I realized that, as long as I know the chords, I can sing while playing the piano. Although playing piano songs is also great, it seems like I want to sing more since then.

Rosé said there weren’t many karaoke bars at the time she lived in Australia. She tried playing the piano repeatedly with four chords to create new melodies as a pastime… but then she became fascinated by the piano.

“Now, if there’s a song I want to sing, I just play the piano, instead of playing an existing track. Being able to play the piano and sing my favorite songs is a happiness,” Rosé revealed that her passion for singing comes from the piano.

At the age of 25, Rosé has experienced a lot. She was born in New Zealand, grew up in Australia, then came to Korea alone to become a trainee at YG Entertainment.

In response to the question, what is the most memorable thing she learned during her time as a YG trainee, Rosé affirmed: “There is no stronger motivation than having a dream. Anyone who has clear goals will eventually achieve what they desire. That’s why I think it’s important to have a dream.”

“When I was a trainee, I persevered for 4 years because I had a very clear dream: To debut as a singer in Korea, as an artist under YG Entertainment.

Other than that, I had no other choice and I never thought about anything else. After 4 years of perseverance, I finally debuted. It’s amazing,” Rosé believes that being steadfast in her dreams has helped her get to where she is today.

“I’m always looking for my own voice”

In the eyes of the public, Rosé is a fashionably dressed superstar, loved by thousands, but when her clear voice rings out, it immediately takes us into another time and space: Immersed in images. The girl considered music as a dream and simply sang the songs she loved.

Talking about the difference between being a solo artist and being a part of Blackpink, Rosé said that performing a complete solo song with a duration of about 3 minutes is a completely different feeling than contributing. voice in the group’s joint song.

For Rosé, a solo artist will lead their own story through the song from beginning to end. But as a member of Blackpink, she must take on the role of bringing emotions and variations to certain parts of the song.

Therefore, Rosé is still constantly exploring and developing her own voice and color. At the same time, she actively participated in the production process.

Rosé showed her artistic creativity and strong personal impression through her solo album “-R-“. She participated in composing both solo songs “On The Ground” and “Gone”. Recently, Rosé also participated in composing the song “Yeah Yeah Yeah” in the album “Born Pink”.

Being the only Kpop artist honored by Variety in the list of powerful young stars under 25 years old in 2022, achieving countless successes after 6 years of musical activities as the main vocalist of Blackpink… but Rosé humbly affirms “I’m always looking for my own artistic voice.

I think I see the direction to a certain extent, and I’m growing in a good direction. Of course, there are still things I need to improve.”
