Conor McGregor plans to replace basketball legend Michael Jordan as the richest sporting star.

Since debuting in the UFC a decade ago, ‘Notorious’ has become the biggest name in MMA history and made an extraordinary amount of money.

The former dual-weight champion makes tens of millions for his fights and famously pocketed $100million for a crossover bout with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather in 2017.

However, he has not set foot in the octagon for two years, meaning he has missed out on some huge paychecks.

Conor McGregor’s net worth is estimated to be around £200million.

However, ‘Notorious’ claims he has made closer to £600million in total throughout his career.

In 2021, McGregor topped Forbes’s list of rich athletes thanks to selling his wildly successful whiskey business to Proximo Spirits for $600million.

However, due to an injury, he suffered at UFC 264 in July 2021, the 34-year-old has been unable to cash in through fighting and has slipped to 33 on the same list two years later.

Ahead of his eagerly anticipated comeback, McGregor is determined to become a billionaire and ultimately displace Michael Jordan who is the wealthiest man in sports history, according to a recent Statista study.

Jordan, who is widely regarded as the greatest basketball player of all time, made around $100m during his 19-year playing career that included six NBA titles, six MVPs in the NBA finals, and 14 inclusions in the league’s All-Star team.

Although the 60-year-old has made most of his money through his Air Jordan collaboration with Nike and is believed to have a net worth of $2 billion.

“It’s motivating, Michael Jordan’s at the top spot, obviously with the Jordan brand that took him there, he’s worth multiple billions,” McGregor said during an interview with broadcaster Megan Olivi.

“I think it’s $3.3billion he’s made.

“I’m closing in on a billion, I think I’m at about $650m all in that I’ve made.

“I think they estimate that, I’d probably have to do my own little check of that, but I fancy my chances of getting up that list.

“It was good to see, that Forbes [richest athletes of the year list] was a goal of mine to hit that, I got that and onwards we go.”
