In 2022, the Deadshot movie was in talks. The reports on Warner Bros. considering the future of Ezra Miller’s films (The Flash) revealed that a solo Deadshot film starring Will Smith was once in development. It could’ve happened, but it was reportedly put on hold due to Smith’s $20 million salary requirement.

Will Smith portrayed Floyd Lawton (deadliest assassin of the DC), aka Deadshot, in the 2016 film Suicide Squad. Despite negative reviews, the movie made $746 million and smoothened the way for a Deadshot spin-off.

Smith had a chance to feature as Deadshot again in the movie’s sequel in 2021. But due to his scheduling conflicts, he didn’t return as Deadshot for the James Gunn-directed DC movie. But it looks like the Deadshot solo movie will happen despite all the uncertainties.

According to a Reddit post, there will be a solo Deadshot movie. As per @DCEUleaks, “they have a selection of leaks from unverified, partially verified, and verified sources.” One of the movies from that list is Deadshot. However, the point here to note is it is unverified.

The status of the standalone film for Deadshot is uncertain, and there is no solid evidence that a sequel will be released anytime soon.

While the leak hints at a Deadshot solo movie, it’s still unconfirmed. So, fans need to await official confirmation from DC itself for further details on the potential Deadshot project. Even though there will be a Deadshot movie, the crux is that Smith would not be part of it due to the new DCU’s reboot.

There are two reasons why Will Smith won’t be the face of Deadshot. First, DC is rebooting its entire universe in an attempt to keep its characters and stories fresh. By recasting the entire universe, Gunn ensures a distinct DCU from DCEU to avoid confusion for the audience.

If a new Deadshot movie is coming, James Gunn may want someone new to play the assassin. He is recasting almost all major DC roles.

Plus, Smith is not the best choice right now, considering Oscars slapgate. Smith had already faced boycotts from multiple projects after slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars.

It included possible cancellation of Netflix Fast & Loose and Sony’s Bad Boys 4. So, that could be another reason why Smith’s possibility of casting as Deadshot for the standalone film looks up in the air.
