Liverpool and Manchester City played out an excellent 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon, and Mohamed Salah broke yet another personal record.
The Egyptian winger grabbed an assist for Trent Alexander-Arnold late in the game as the Reds ended City’s 23-game winning streak at home.
Alexander-Arnold was the goalscorer and Salah the creator
This assist took Salah to 17 goal contributions against City in just 20 games.
This consists of 11 goals and six assists, meaning Salah is always a thorn in City’s side.
There is no other side he’s faced in his career that he’s had more personal success against.
Before this assist, his record against Man City was tied with Manchester United, with 16 goal contributions in 12 matches.
So it’s clear that Salah loves playing against the Manchester sides.
The assist for Alexander-Arnold summed up Salah’s growth as a footballer.
After receiving a pass from Luis Diaz on the right, he waited for the perfect moment to roll a lovely ball into the England international, who took it in his stride and buried a strike into the bottom corner.
He will feel he could have had more assists as well, as he set up Darwin Nunez twice only to see Ederson make two top saves to deny the Uruguayan.
Salah saves his best for games against the good teams
Liverpool might not have won at the Etihad, but Salah once again proved his importance to Jurgen Klopp’s men.
He can always be relied upon to deliver in the big games and in the big moments, which is why his record against City is so good.
Post-match press conference: Pep Guardiola (Premier League: Manchester City 1-1 Liverpool)
This was a good point for the Reds that kept them right in the title race.
They weren’t even close to their best in many areas, but didn’t collapse like last season in an eventual 4-1.
It’s still early days, and Liverpool might not end up being serious title contenders, but while they’re in the race, they will remain a danger to their rivals.
