During an interview with Screen Rant at the BoxLunch Gala, Erin Moriarty was asked some insight for the highly-anticipated The Boys season 4. When asked whether Starlight will try to vie for leadership within the titular vigilante group or even The Seven, Moriarty teased the character’s inner turmoil and lack of interest in taking on a leadership position in either group, explaining her focus lies more within being in a position to “impart the most change.” See what Moriarty shared below:

First of all, I think for her, it’s not about leadership. Actually, I do believe that. I think it’s about taking whatever position she can, assessing it, and really trying to make sure that she’s in a position where she can impart the most change, or make the biggest impact. I think that leadership component comes into play more so because, Butcher is trying to be the leader, Homelander is trying to be the leader. Right?

Those are the ones that are trying to be the leaders. I don’t think she’s trying to be just any of those leaders arbitrarily to be the leader, I think she is trying to assess who the rightful leader is, because that person has a trickle-down effect. So I think, whether it would be her, or someone else, I don’t think it matters as long as she feels that it’s right. I think that’s a pretty integral part of her role, is that arbitrary leadership is not only not productive, but harmful.

What To Expect From Starlight In The Boys Season 4

Though she notably joined up with the vigilante anti-Supes team, it’s currently unclear whether Starlight will actually remain absent from The Seven heading into The Boys season 4. In their efforts to maintain their clean public image, Vought is no stranger to reversing their own public statements, which could lead to them taking back their smear campaign labeling her quitting as stemming from the faux breakup with Homelander. Additionally, with Queen Maeve no longer part of The Seven after becoming de-powered, The Boys would want an inside person to get the upper hand on Vought.

That being said, The Boys season 4 trailer did seemingly hint at a battle between Starlight and Homelander, with angry protesters also carrying anti-Starlight signs. Given Homelander is looking to use his newfound popularity for a political campaign, she could very well remain an outlier from The Seven, necessitating the vigilante group to find an alternate means of getting the inside track on Vought. Moriarty did offer a previous tease that made it seem unlikely she would be reuniting with The Seven:

The other major point of interest for Starlight heading into The Boys season 4 will be her relationship with Hughie. Though not having a full reconciliation with him by the end of season 3, her concerns over his use of Temp-V could remain a pivotal conflict heading into the next season, especially as Karl Urban’s Butcher continues to seem hooked by its power, even while knowing the health risks it carries. Should Butcher somehow convince Hughie to take the drug again, or a new version of it comes along that’s less deadly, the couple may find themselves at odds yet again.
