The Voice: John Legend gets choked up while praising Lila Forde as top nine perform during semifinals on NBC

John Legend got emotional while gushing about Lila Forde on Monday’s episode of The Voice as the top nine performed during the semifinals on NBC.

The 44-year-old coach praised Lila, 24, of Seattle, after she ended the two-hour show with a stirring rendition of the Joni Mitchell song River.

The semis episode featured the top nine singers each performing a song picked by fans along with a trio performance of a Taylor Swift song.

Lila’s fans had been clamoring for her to perform a Joni Mitchell song and she delivered while trying to land a spot in the season 24 finals.

The singer said her biggest fans were her mom and dad who run a meditation retreat in Washington.

‘America’s fallen in love with Lila because she’s a real artist. She’s a real musician,’ John said during rehearsal.

He told Lila that she sounded ‘gorgeous’ and said he wanted her to be in the finals.

Lila said she felt comfortable around John and admitted that she had past mentors who put her down.

‘It means so much to be where I am now and have this person telling me that I am enough, and it gives me the confidence that I know I’m good enough to make it to the finale. I know I’m good enough to win this thing. It’s like, changed my life,’ Lila said.

Lila earned a standing ovation from the coaches and host Carson Daly, 50, asked new coach Reba McEntire, 68, for her reaction.

‘You have got to feel so good after that performance, and I feel for those people who said you didn’t have what it takes. Wow. I’m glad you didn’t listen to them, because you are so good,’ Reba said.

Reba told Lila that she touched their hearts.

‘People can sing, but there’s people who can sing with their heart, and you do, Lila. You’re so good,’ Reba added.

Carson next went to John for feedback on his singer Lila.
