‘He requires Haaland’: Machine in motion When Man City and Crystal Palace drew, Julian Alvarez gave a poor effort, losing the duel by an 85% margin

Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez put in a disappointing performance in the club’s recent 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace.

After finding themselves 2-0 up thanks to goals from Jack Grealish and Rico Lewis, the Citizens ended up dropping two points after conceding two goals within the final 15 minutes of the game.

While the entire team will be disappointed with the overall outcome, one player, in particular, we felt failed to deliver on this occasion was Alvarez.

Just like last weekend’s 2-1 win over Luton Town, the Argentine found himself playing in the centre-forward role in the absence of Erling Haaland.

Across the entire 90 minutes of the match at the Etihad Stadium, Alvarez had 40 touches of the ball in total, the fewest out of any outfield City player.

From an attacking point of view, the 23-year-old only had one attempt at goal, which failed to make its way past Dean Henderson in the Palace net.

As well as that, the striker ended up losing 85% of the duels he was involved in, with just one out of seven won.

He also gave two fouls away and got dribbled past on two occasions by the opposition, which further highlights how uninspiring Alvarez was.

The center forward was the lowest-rated outfield player for the home team as a result of this performance, receiving a rather lackluster 6.5/10 overall match rating from SofaScore.

In light of everything, it is evident that Alvarez did not have a fantastic day and did not give Pep Guardiola or the City supporters any reason to believe that he can play as a lone striker in the absence of Haaland from the starting lineup.

The Argentina international may find himself cut from the squad after Haaland returns to full fitness if he keeps up this kind of play in the future.
