Kanye West selling mansion at huge loss after turning lavish home into ‘rotting shelter’

Kanye West has put his “rotting bomb shelter” mansion back on the market for $53 million. He previously gutted the property with the intent to transform it into a secret bunker

Kanye West is putting the Malibu mansion he transformed into a “rotting bomb shelter” up for sale at $53 million (£42 million).

Ye bought the stunning beachfront home for $57 million (£45 million) in 2021- only to completely gut it, allegedly with the intent to transform it into a bunker where he could hide from both the Kardashians and Clintons. Now, it would appear the 46-year-old star has had a change of heart, as he has put the property back on the market with celeb realtor Jason Oppenheim.

The 4,000-square-foot mansion has not only had all of its windows and electricity removed as part of the rapper’s renovation project, but it is also at the centre of a civil lawsuit. His former project manager who was overseeing the remodel has accused Kanye of violating labour law, claiming he was fired for refusing to comply with the star’s dangerous requests.

Nonetheless, Selling Sunset star Jason is determined to put a positive spin on the controversy surrounding the home. In an interview with TMZ, he boasted the property’s location and claimed he was sure it will “get a lot of interest”.

The real estate broker said: “The interior finishes have been removed, and this creates an unbelievably rare opportunity to buy a Picasso on the water with the ability to restore it to your own specific standards, with modern technology and excellence. While there’s a lot of work needed, the home is smack in the middle of Malibu and right on the water’s edge … so it’s sure to get a lot of interest”.

Previously, Tony Saxon, the former celebrity contractor who is suing Kanye, told The Mirror that his former employer had wanted to hide from the government. He further elaborated on his Instagram that the star was also worried about the Kardashians. He wrote: “[Kanye] wanted to have a bomb shelter/bunk in the basement to hide from ‘Clintons & Kardashians’ all while living on a public beach.”

Tony also told The Mirror about the Yeezy founder’s bizarre demands to remove the mansion’s windows, electricity, stairs, ramps and even plumbing. “I mean the man wanted a shower outside, no plumbing, pooping into a hole in the floor ,” he said.

The contractor-turned-musician had originally thought the project he was working on was some sort of “art piece”. Tony claimed he became invested in the project, hanging onto promises of payment and an enthralling vision. Over time, Kanye began to tell Tony about his plans to live within the walls of the desolate building. Ever since Tony moved off of the project, it has turned into the shell of the lavish mansion it once was. According to a statement from Tony’s lawyers, Kanye left “it now rotting in shambles with no windows or electricity”.
