Shakira fans can admire the nearly 7m tall statue with the singer’s signature hip-swinging pose in her hometown of Barranquilla, Colombia.
The bronze statue, about 6.5 meters high, depicts the image of the 46-year-old singer performing the hip-swinging dance move seen in the 2005 music video with a seductive long flowing dress. Furthermore, the words engraved below the statue’s base are also inspired by the song that made her famous, “Hips Don’t Lie”.
The statue of the queen of Latin music – Shakira was honored in her hometown
It is known that this sculpture was made by artist Yino Marquez with the support of students and graduates of the District School of Art. It was placed on the banks of the Magdalena River to honor her contributions to the country’s music industry as well as the world music industry. In addition to Barranquilla mayor Jaime Pumarejo Heins, the statue’s inauguration ceremony also included Shakira’s parents, Mr. William Mebarak and Ms. Nidia Ripoll.
Sharing on her personal page with 90.3 million followers, Shakira said this honor was too much for her little heart.
“I am delighted for this tribute to Colombian women and the Barranquilleras in and beyond my land!” The female singer expressed her feelings.
Although the statue is very large, it is not the largest ever erected. The largest statue belonging to screen goddess Marilyn Monroe is currently located outside a travel agency in Palm Springs, California.
